30 ACT...where to apply?

I realize this isn't a perfect score, but it's within the mid 50% at most top schools. What i'm wondering is, people with same or almost same score, where are you applying?

Thanks

bump??????

it's your decision apply to where you feel would best suit you. "top" colleges doesn't always mean best college. just read around cc and you can definitely find some places you can go to

I got the same as you. I'm just putting in applications at state schools that will throw a bit of money at me to come there with my GPA and ACT. I was told, however, that I'd do well to put in applications at some higher end schools such as Stanford, UW, Whitworth, Reed, etcetera.... Don't know if that helps you.

If you have a respectable GPA and some decent activities like music or leadership, go ahead and apply pretty much anywhere you like that isn't Ivy-League. I'd say you have a decent shot.

A 30 ACT = a 1340 SAT, which is a very good score. For most schools, that should help not hurt, but if you're looking at ivy league or top25 you might want to try and raise it by a couple of points. I have a 29 now and am shooting for a 30 this Sat. since I'm applying to the UC's and even for the top one's a 1340 is their average. Good luck, I'm sure you'll get into a great school.

well if you don't live in cali collegeboundjen, don't even think of apply to uc berkely... the competition for out-of-staters is even more harsh and some ivy league colleges 0_o

true bob...i was just saying that a 1340 is definitly a good score for lots of schools.

Miami of ohio www.muohio.edu

UCs require 1400s right? i got 1340 in one siting but 1400 in 2 combined, so both UCalGirl9 and i don't have a chance with our scores :(

I would say that you could apply anywhere. In fact, Harvard's middle 50% ACT scores are 30-34. Of course, you should try to raise your score if you can, but I wouldn't worry too much about restraints because of your score. I have a 31 and I'm retaking for at least a 34 on Sat December 11th. I just need to raise my reading and english scores.

what do you mean UC's require 1400? UC = University of California (9 different campuses) each campus has different averages. Berk and LA have averages of about ~1340-1350, UCSD has an average of ~1300, UCSB, UCD, UCI have averages of 1240-1250, etc, but those are for in-staters. For out of staters averages are higher. If you want to try to get in by examination alone I think you have to have 1400+ but for reg admission there isn't a min./max. If you're in-state you would have a good shot at the UC's (assuming good stats all-around.)

Thanks, everyone
