I am taking the Oct 22 ACT subject test. I really really have to get a thirty and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I already have a 27 so if i could get the composite up 3 points i would be very happy. Also how much time should I spend studying per day/week? I am not worried about the essay, english, or reading as those are my strong points.

How strong are you in the reading and english? I would like to think that your individual scores are all around 27.
Anyway, to raise your composite 3 points I believe that means that your total individual scores should go up about 12 pts. If reading and english are your strong pts, I'd recommend you strive for a 36 in both of these(of course you should always try for a 36) and then review for the math and science sections.
I'm not sure how helpful that is, but...anyone else.

On April 9th I got a 28 english, 24 math, 32 reading, and a 23 science. Science and reading were both kind of my fault because I got tired of them and just started working really fast. As you can see that is not a very effective method for science. I have the Princeton Review book and the Official Guide to the ACT. When you take the practice tests should I just skip the reading section and save myself some time? I have always done fairly well on CR on this type of test. It is mainly my math score that is down in the 60th percentile range.

For math, do a lot of problems. Take some sample math sections, identify your weakness, and work on it.

Focus more on math than science, definitely. Science is the last section and it involves so much nonsense graph interpretation that you really can't "prepare" much for it. Just do a ton of practice problems, work on time management, and feel confident. You'll do fine :) My SATs sucked but by the time I got to my ACT (after 3 SATs) I was totally amped and confident. I got a 32! Your attitude about it and your self-confidence is half the secret to success.

Thanks. That actually makes a lot of sense. I am always so worried about the math section that I always do bad. I think that I just need to focus on studying for that since Science is impossible to study for.

On the ACT I took in June, (with maybe 2 hrs max skimming through a PR book, but no practice tests taken) I got a 30 E 30 M 30 W and 26 S. I need to get this up to at least a 31. How easy/difficult are we talking here if I'm taking it in October?

I am from the Virginia, so ACT is not that important here. I stressed out a lot over SATs. However, when I went to take the ACT I was really relaxed.

I had not even seen the format before, I had NO idea what to expect. I didn't even know how the scoring worked.

I got a 32. The reason......not stressing. I got a 690/680 on my SAT because I stressed too much. So my advice....just don't stress it too much, and go in totally relaxed
