Just judging by standardized testing, is a 33 ACT score good for Upenn or should I retake it?
Thanks!

You’re good. Invest your time in EC’s
you’re above average.
It’s fine.
I have the same question… except I have a 32 (31+36+32+27) and (31+31+33+32)…
should I retake for a 33 or 34 in december for my regular decision ivy schools?
At this moment, unless you’re aiming for 34-36, it’s not worth it. You’re sending all scores in to show improvement, not score obsession. If you get a 32 again or worse, you’ve screwed yourself over.
I agree with @toffys here. If you studied hard for your 33 and put in work for it then you probably won’t hit much higher on the scale. However, if you are a natural test taker and nabbed a 33 without preparation I suggest you put in some hours of practice and you could very easily walkaway with a 35 or 36. This is a strategy that has really worked well for myself and other competitive applicants from my high school.
Good luck!
Thank you for your comments…
I went from 27 to 29 to finally 32 but the 4th time stayed at 32 because i messed up for math (went from 36 to 31) but improved everything else… definitely not a person who just walks it and get high score even tho I have a 4.0 at school with 8 AP classes along with strong EC
at this point I am just gonna leave my 32 here and keep my fingers crossed! thanks guys
Sounds like a plan! Good luck!
if i took it again and i got the same score a 32, but did better on my essay and better in grammar, does that look bad? thanks
@studious20 Penn isn’t looking at Essay scores anymore. Don’t look score obsessive, that’s all I’m telling you.
why aren’t they looking at the essay anymore? Thanks
i don’t think re-taking the ACT for a 34 from a 32 is obsessive ? @toffys
@studious20 On paper it looks better, but honestly, it’s only a difference of 3-5 questions. I am very sure admissions will know that since you’re sending in all scores, and they probably know more and receive more information about the ACT than most people.
Rule of thumb is 3 tests at most; 4 if you’re confident of a significant improvement. Taking too many tests makes you look like a score obsessive maniac who has nothing to do on Saturdays.

@TheWaffleMan149 Haha, you might need some. I live in Southern California so it’s only 9pm.
