Ok so I took the June ACT and I got a 33 composite score (35 math, 34 english, 34 reading, 28 science) and I am a rising senior. I want to apply to the University of Pennsylvania in their ED pool. Assuming I have appreciatable EC’s, do I need to take the ACT again? I also am very heavily science oriented and have high A’s in AP physics 2, AP chem, AP calc AB, AP Physchology, and next year i’m taking AP Bio, AP physics C, and AP calc BC as science/math courses. Will this help take pressure off my science subscore? Thank you in advance.
If you think you can score significantly higher (32+) on the science, study and go for it. If you think you might strugglead and only get a 29 or 30, then I’d suggest taking the SAT and submitting that in place of the ACT. It has no science and it’s generally similar to the ACT.
On the practice tests I took I scored higher in the 34-36 range on the science test so I was quite surprised at my score on the actual test. I have to take the SAT for national merit qualification anyways so I may just give that a go. Thank you! @BEDAJO
Does Penn superscore? If so, definitely. Even if they don’t, I still recommend retaking. You have 3 months to refresh yourself with the materials. I personally found ACT science practice tests almost identical to the actual test. Do that, maintain scores from past subjects, and your set for the desired 34-36 range (superscore or not). Best of luck.
@lmgolden62 Penn requires applicants to submit their entire testing history. If applicants have taken both the SAT and the ACT, they must submit their testing history from both exams. Penn will pay attention to the highest scores from any test when reviewing a candidate’s application, but having the complete testing profile provides deeper insight.
Ok thank you both @ChiefMonger @HereToHelpYou I will consider retaking the ACT the next testing date.
