I'm considering submitting my apps to Duke, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and University of Delaware within the next week or two. I recently got a 34 on the ACT, and looking at the schools I'm applying to, none require SAT II's if you submit the ACT. However, I'm wondering if I should take at least Math II and maybe one other. My math section score was a 32, and for an engineering applicant I don't really know how good that is. My question is whether my ACT score is high enough that I shouldn't really worry about subject tests. I don't exactly know how rare or common the score is among the first three schools, and I've always been told that if your ACT/SAT score is "dime-a-dozen", take SAT II's to make your app stand out more. I'd like to avoid more standardized tests and focus on my essays, so if anyone has any feedback on whether or not I should take SAT II's it would be greatly appreciated.

Take the SAT’s. That will help you when being considered for admission at these top schools. Although most of these schools don’t require these exams, they are usually strongly-recommended. Therefore, I think you should give them a shot.

BTW, any tips/strateies for the ACT? How do you deal with the timing for the reading and science section? Lol. I am asking everyone who scores well on the ACT. But don’t think I am not studying, I just want some tips from the real test-takers themselves! (: Hehe.

Alright, I’ll consider that. I mean, I would take them but I don’t know if the schools would accept them after I’ve submitted a complete application. Would they accept SAT II’s as long as they get the scores before the RD deadlines?

And as for the ACT…needstostudy, I’ll PM you the strategies :)

I went to Duke’s website and they said the application must be submitted by Nov. 1st, but the standardized tests must be recieved by the 5th. Therefore, you have time to take the SAT II’s and send them in… Well depending on the dates you take the test on. Hopefully you have the luck to recieve you scores and send them before their deadline. Lol. (: Good Luck!

And thanks a mucho!! Lol (yes i meant mucho). I will be waiting for your PM.

Here is the information I interpreted from Duke’s website. Check it out!

[Duke University Admissions: Deadlines](http://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/deadlines.html)

Nov. 1st is the ED deadline, so I’d imagine its a similar concept for RD - they need all scores 3-4 days after the deadline. Guess I have time, so I may as well try at least Math II and maybe a history subject to show some diversity of knowledge. Thanks for your help though, and I did send you the PM so I hope that helps you as well.

It was really helpful!! Thanks!

And no prob, I don’t mind helping anyone on CC! (: hehe. (only the nice ones… some could be evil… Lol.)
