Hey, I took the practice ACT that you get from the website and got a 32 composite on it, and here are my subscores:

28- English (with writing, 10 essay subscore)
30- Reading
34- Math (should have gotten a 36....if it weren't 11 at night I'd have gotten all the questions I missed)
34- Science (missed one question, damn you!!!)

How hard is it to improve your scores on the ACT, relative to the SAT? Do you think that, providing that I buy an ACT study book and study this summer, that a 34 is attainable in September or October?

english is super easy to bring up and you should be able to get high 30s on that with practice

also, if you're good at science, you should nail reading. just do practice tests. you can probably get a 35, considering that math and science are the hardest sections and you nailed them.

btw, i scored a 34.

sweet.

I've always sucked at english (I can read and write, but I can't proofread worth crap!). I definitely see what everybody means when they say that the ACT is geared more towards math/science students. Is the Real ACT prep guide available at say, borders or barnes and nobles', or do I have to order it through the ACT website?

yah i'm on the same boat as you. I got a 32.

English:31 (writing: 10)
Math: 35
Reading:33
Science: 29 (Damn!)

i think you can definitely bring up your english score by practicing and reading writing/grammar books.

since i got a 29 on science, do you have any suggestions on how i can bring up that grade since you got a 34??? I really ran out of time on the test by a lot and was rushing through everything

Well this was a timed practice test, I did it with a timer set to the actual time limits, so I haven't taken the actual thing yet. I felt rushed on the math and reading, but the math might have been because I was having a brain fart and took five minutes to remember the formula for the circumference of a circle.

To be honest, the only experience I have with the ACT is that one timed practice test, so I really don't have any other suggestions other than to be careful because missing one on the science section (according to the curve on my practice test) brought down my science score from a 36 to a 34, and missing two would have brought it down to a 32.

Also, where can I find some more practice tests other than the three that come with the real ACT prep guide?

i wouldnt trust the online test that much..i found it pretty misleading

The curve or the difficulty of the questions?

i guess the curve goes with the difficulty of the questions

i thought i was doin well on the practice one which means i would do well on hte actual one

but instead i got the same score when i took the act for the 2nd time as i did the 1st time

idk if ur gonna use it, dont think ur gonna get the score u get on that practice one for when u take the actual one (or close to it) it may just be me tho

Wow, perpetual motion. I had the exact same ACT scores.

i'm also in the same situation as you

Composite: 33
English: 30 (writing:12)
Reading: 36
Math: 36
Science: 31
i took this in june and my only practice was an english section...interesting how it happened to be my lowest score

the rounding that is involved in the composite score usually works in your favor. anyway, does anyone have specific tips on how to get the science scores up? theres a whole bunch for english but not too many for science
