3rd recommendation for Yale, Harvard, and Columbia?

For freshman application, Yale, Harvard, and Columbia didn't mention whether or not they allow a 3rd recommendation (from a research mentor or debate coach, for example). Does anyone know if a 3rd recommendation would be OK?

Curious about this as well; replying so I can easily access the thread for later. Except in my case, the third rec writer is another teacher at my school.

Thank you, lakersafan72. I will read the FAQ from the other colleges more carefully.

They definitely accept additional recs. I had a 3rd rec sent by an alum who was involved in running the alumni reunions.

Yes, an additional recommendation would be perfectly acceptable. In fact, Yale permitted the electronic submission of three teacher recommendations when I was applying during last year’s admissions cycle (which may still be the case). In total, I had six references submitted, actually, but I had a bit of a unique situation due to extensive moving.
