3rd world country volunteering

<p>I'm going on a trip during my winter break. </p>

<p>What's the consensus on how helpful this is in regards to med school? Obviously it's not a deal breaker or whatever, but any thoughts?</p>

<p>And no, I didn't put like 10 grand on this, only 1k or so :)</p>

<p>Probably a middle-of-the-road type of EC. Unless you do something amazing, it’s going to be just another activity. $1000 for a 2-week trip is decent. Enjoy the trip. Hopefully you learn something and have some fun. It’s worth an EC slot but hopefully it won’t be the cornerstone of your application.</p>

<p>Will you be doing anything medically related during this trip?</p>

<p>Either way, I’m with NCG, its nothing particularly special. Its actually a relatively common EC.</p>

<p>Yeah, we set up medical clinics in villages that don’t normally have access to health care. I get to shadow a doctor, dentist, and help out with stuff like pharmacy, vital signs etc.</p>

<p>that sounds like the typical overseas experience. hope you get some good stories to tell!</p>
