so my father knows the 'owner'(i guess CEO? rofl) of this hospital which runs purely on donations in a 3rd country. i am signed up to volunteer there for 5 days.
problem is, i don't know what i should do over there.
my father asked me what do i plan on accomplishing over there and i discussed with him how i could make a portfolio which i could present to family friends and raise money to donate to the hospital.
i was also thinking about doctor shadowing. I could easily do up to like 15 hrs a day over there.

those are the only 2 things i know i will be doing.

i def. know that i will base part of my college essays on this valuable experience. gahhhh im so excited!

forgot to ask the main question. What else should/can i do there?

Whatever you do be very conscientious of patients rights, the US standards not those in the third world. If you make a portfolio of patients then you had better get written and informed consent to use their stories and pictures. If you shadow or volunteer in the hospital, beware opportunities to do things beyond your education level. While it may sounds cool, admissions essays about how you sutured up trauma victims in the ER really don’t go over well.

I agree. I think it’s important to realize that ethics transcends legal boundaries. Just because something is legal in a country doesn’t mean you should do it.

Alright guys thanks. forgot about all that type of stuff.

I agree with norcalguy
