First post, not sure if this is the right forum for this.
So, as a sophomore in high school, choosing classes for next year, here is what i have so far:
AP Enviro Science (Already did bio and chem)
AP English
Latin 3
Honors US History 2
Algebra 2
Tech integration
Orchestra
Intermediate Film Production (TV 2)
The question for me is, while i only need two years of a language to graduate, should I drop Latin 3 in favor for a Computer Science course? (Its a prereq to AP Computer Science). Im planning on majoring in either computer science to become a software engineer, or majoring in media communications…
Thoughts on not taking a third year of latin? I struggle very very much in that class and have no desire to take it, but after two years if i have to i will.
It will depend upon which colleges you are targeting. Many colleges want a minimum of 3 years of a language and some even four. I would consider taking the 3rd year since you may not have an definitive schools on your list. This way you can keep your options open when it comes time to apply.
I am in the same position as you are right now and I am going to do Spanish 3 for recommended requirement. This will be my last year if i take it so that is how I see it.
If i end up taking Latin 3, i might as well take latin 4 as it meets in the same block with the same teacher as latin 3. Latin 4, however, counts as an AP class where you either read latin texts or help tutor latin 3 students.
I guess to rephrase the question, would 4 years of latin be more valuable than 2 years of latin and 2 year of computer science?
