Does a 4 credit community college foreign language course count as a full year of foreign language course for applying to colleges? For example, I took Spanish I in high school, Elementary Spanish II at local CC (prerequisite is 1 year of HS spanish or Elementary
Spanish I) , and Intermediate Spanish I (prerequisite is 2 years of HS Spanish or Elementary
Spanish II).

So I've taken 3 years of Spanish in high school, correct? Darn my high school for totally messing up my transcript...

Yes, that’s essentially what my D did and had no problem. She did go further than you overall, but the first CC course did replace a year long HS class:

HS: Spanish I
CC: Spanish 102 (4 qt credits)
HS: Spanish III & IV
CC: Spanish 202 & 203 (4 qt cr each)

A college course that meets for three 50 minute class periods each week is usually 3 semester hours - sometimes 4. For a full year of credits, you would need one course each semester (or each quarter) that meets for three 50 minute class periods each week.

Often, one year of HS foreign language is considered to be the equivalent of one-half year at the college level. However, your school is free to convert the college courses to the number of HS courses it sees fit. Don’t worry about this. Send copies of the community college transcript as well as the HS transcript with your applications. The places you apply to will sort this one out for themselves.
