<p>Not at all. You never know who's going to flake out at the last minute. If you can't e-mail/upload more than 3 names on your application, just have your 4th do a paper copy.</p>

<p>It's best to check the Admission Requirements of the program/dept. you are applying to. Some universities like the additional viewpoint, some (including many top unis) don't have time for the 4th - in that case they might even take the 1st 3 LORs that come their way. So you can decide on a case by case basis. But in case you decide to have 4 of them, make sure that the first 3 to reach them are your best ones.</p>
