Now that many of us have gotten in, I would like to know how long it's gonna take to graduate from UCI. I had a 3.3 in highschool... i'm not the best student... so is it realistic to expect to graduate in 4 years. Also, is there a way for me to avoid taking calc, phyics, bio and chem ever? My major is Psychology and Social Behavior.

If you're a PSB major you can avoid taking all of those classes. You can take stats instead of calculus for your math requirement, and you can fulfill your science breadth requirement with something other than physics, bio, and chem.

And you can finish PSB in three years without too much trouble if you don't have an double major or a minor.

Im guessing because I am going to change to an econ major, I'll have to take calc...which i should have taken in hs but sched conflict messed everything up otherwise i would have taken AB this year.....if I have enought AP credits to be half a year ahead will i graduate in 3.5 yrs?

Thanks for the info alicante, does anyone have a sample schedule for the Psychology and Social Behavior major. Is this major easy at Irvine... what should I know about it? Any reasons to avoid it?

jakroo, yes you can graduate in 3.5. you can graduate in 2.5 years if you have enough credits from ap or summer school or taking more a regular course load.

amirada, i don't think a sample schedule will mean much to you because you don't know what any of those courses mean anyway. but if you want to see it, you can go to uci.edu and search for catalog. then look up psb and they'll more than you want to know about it. as far as "how easy" is it, i think as long as you aviod bio or engineering, the rest are not that competitve. psb is easy to graduate relative to cognitive psych. i think you have to take 16-18 courses, i forget exactly. you can look that up in the catalog as well. hope that helps.

Be careful about AP credits. Just because you have enough AP credits to have sophomore standing, it doesn't mean you'll finish a year early. You might get AP credits in something like psychology, but if you're not in a major that requires you to take college psych, then it really does you no good in terms of advancing towards your degree. You can see last year's AP credit part of the catalogue here: http://www.editor.uci.edu/05-06/intro/intro.11.htm

Here's what you need to take for the major:

So you decided not to go to UCSD amiradaprincess ?

Thanks for the info guys... one more thing... what's the dif between psyc and psyc and social behavior? Is one easier than the other?
tastemyhypocrisy: Yea, there's no way I could give up Irvine... it's perfect for me and it's the only school that offers that major. SD is nice, but I don't think it's for me :-).

soc sci majors are fairly easy to graduate with becuase they have few courses you need to take to graduate. the reason most people do not graduate in three years is because they do not have enough credit in general or they choose to stay another year to finish out the college expereicnce. again, i am only speaking for the social science school.

cognitive psych is more biological based whereas psb is more behavior. in my opinion, psb is more interesting. i took psych 9a and psych 9b. the classes were okay, though there are a lot of reading and memorization. i would recommend psb unless you have a good biology background.
