Hello. I just had a question with regards to being a psychology transfer in UCI.

So I just got accepted to the psychology B.A. program at UCI (Not the one with social behavior). I had all my IGETC (general education) done, and most of the classes listed on Assist.org done (except for the computer classes, fundamental classes, and 1 extra elective class), meaning I had 1 semester of calculus, probability and statistics, abnormal psychology (for 1 lower-level class on assist.org), and macroeconomics done. I also have more psychology classes done, such as Introduction to Psychology and Language Development, and few other classes, such as 1 semester of general chemistry 1 (because I wanted to go premed) and few others.

So I was wondering, does anyone have an idea as to how long I would have to spend at UCI to graduate, with and without summer classes?

Thank you so much for your time.

You should be able to figure this out on your own. Count the number of classes you still need to graduate and include the typical quarters that they are offered. Plan a tentative 2 year schedule and see if you would be able to realistically complete all the classes you need in that amount of time.

UCI Catalog found here: <a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>http://www.editor.uci.edu/catalogue/11-12Catalogue.pdf

How many units transferred?

You should try to finish your math soon as possible so you can do the required research class. And make sure you get the 4 core and 1 core sequence + the upper division writing fitted into your schedule-it’s possible to graduate by the summer-max transfer units+20 units a quarter+informed scheduling+15 units during the summer and you’re good.

Personally I just transferred in with 105(had 145) in SS dept. Psych and plan to finish this summer, then hopefully have another 2 years of med school requirements.

I would have almost 70-80 units transferred. I was looking at the catalog that killmyentourage provided (thank you for the help once again by the way), and I also read that there are some classes under the psychology B.A. classes that I have may have taken already (similar class names). These are all the psychology classes I have taken in both private school and community college:

-Introduction to Psychology
-Research writing in Psychology (Small 1 unit class that taught how to write and research for papers)
-Abnormal Psychology
-Language Acquisition
-Organizational Psychology
-Asian Culture and Studies (It was a sociology class that counted for the IGETC, so I do not know if they would count this or not).

And plus, I’ve finished probability and statistics and 1 semester of calculus. And I have also been able to do 1 semester of Macroeconomics.

I have also taken a couple of pre-med classes such as the 1 semester of calc, 1 semester of gen. chem, and 1 semester of bio. However, these don’t matter with graduating with a psychology degree (with the exception of the 1 calc semester), so I didn’t want to count them.

I was looking at the catalog that killmyentourage provided, and I was able to get a very rough estimate as to how many more classes I need to take. However, I am not very sure of it. How about you, Berdson? If I took summer classes and summer sessions, how many quarters or years would you think I would take in order to graduate? I just wanted to get a second estimate from a different person that’s not me to see if our estimates are close :).

Thanks once again to both of you for helping. I really appreciate it.

Quarter or semester units?

And it really depends on how much you’ll max out each term. Into overloading?

Personally I’ve stolen as much as 26 units in one quarter- going for 20 quarter and 14 semester units with dual enrollment at a CC this Fall. All for the sake of seeing what will happen since the cc units won’t have an impact on the BA.

The things I have listed about are all semester units for both the CC and the private school.

I remember, for the first 2 semesters at my private college, I did almost 17-18 semester units each. So that is roughly 35 semester units for that one year. Then, when I transferred to the CC, I did 21 semester units my first semester. For my second semester at the CC, I did about 11 semester units. I originally had 16 semester units that semester, but I dropped out of my beginners chemistry class because I wanted to go straight to General Chemistry I, which I did that following summer. That, General Chemistry I, too was 5 units. So in total, I have just about 70 and a couple more or less semester units in total done.

So what do you think?

70 x 1.5 = the lucky number 105-perfect.

If you follow my plan you could finish by the first summer session. If you take it easy you should finish about a quarter early if you go the average pace.

On note-take your time and enjoy your stay at UCI. Unless you’re like me and projected to have a short life expectancy.

Keep in mind that because you have a lot of 4-yr coursework, if you decide to stay at your CC, you may accumulate too many transferable units to reapply to some of the other UCs. UCI doesn’t have a credit cap but some of the others do (namely D, SC, SD, SB, and various colleges at other UCs).
