4 years housing- link to possible honors status

My son was recently admitted early action with a promise of 4 years of on campus housing. Someone had suggested in another thread that the award of 4 years of on campus housing when early admitted might mean that the recipeint stood a good chance of being offered honors status later; i.e., that he would likely be in a fallback group for honors and selected later - if earlier selectees decide to enroll elsewhere. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? Thanks.

D is a soph at BC and was admitted EA to the honors program with guaranteed 4 years of housing. While she is not 100% sure, she does believe that there is a correlation between the 4 year guarantee and the honors program. I am not sure how any of this relates to your son's chances, but I figured I'd share the info I had.

i was wondering that as well, as i was offered 4 years of housing, but not honors. i have just as high or often times higher scores and gpa's as some of the posted honors ppl so i was wondering how that worked. i really hope it means something because i would love to be admitted later.

Here is the brutal true.

4 year housing is only offer to two group of students:
Honor Program and AHANA

...that's not true

My son is not AHANA (which I had to Google to figure out what it was) and has not - to date - been offered honors. He was promised four years of on campus housing with his early admit.

I am not AHANA or Honors either, and I got four years as well.

What does the Honors program offer in addition, anyways? I know you get special housing, but do you get special courses or anything like that?

I know that there is a separate thing where your Junior/Senior year, you can qualify to write a thesis and graduate with Honors, but I am not sure about this.

D got 4 years of housing. We were told later (by another parent who seemed to have asked around about it) that it is offered to the top 15% of admits--though not all of those are Honors program students. Many do not use all 4 years since junior year is big for going abroad!

I asked these specific questions yesterday since D also received four years of housing, but no Honors invitation. Here are my findings:

4 years of on-campus housing is not related to either AHANA or Honors status.

Honors students have the option of living in Honors housing but can also choose any other housing (leadership house, languages houses, etc.) or the traditional dorms.

More students are now offered a full four years of housing since BC opened a new dorm last year and converted older campus buildings into dorms.

Another dorm is opening this summer, which is why a higher percentage received four years this year.

And as irishforever has noted, more students are choosing to go abroad in the junior year, making more on-campus housing available.

Mystic, did you see the Honors program site?

http://www.bc.edu/schools/cas/honors/about/curriculum/

I asked an admissions officer on Sunday at Eagle day as I was offered four years of housing but no honors, and here is what he said..

*Honors program admission was offered to the top 5% of admits/applicants (i'm not positive which one he said)
*4 years of housing was offered to the top 15% of admits/applicants

Therefore if you were offered 4 years of housing, but not honors, you are not out of the running for honors and do have a chance of being reconsidered during the regular round.

This is exactly what he told me, so I feel certain it is the truth.

So is it possible to do a thesis if you weren't admitted into the Honors program? I can't remember, but I thought after sopohomore year they admitted students into it in order ot write a thesis.

The website says that the thesis is a senior option.

If you weren't admitted honors through Early Action, you can be reconsidered in Regular Decision? That doesn't seem possible!!!----Megadance.

FYI: Most (if not all) Education and Nursing majors are also guaranteed 4 years of housing.

i applied as a bio major, and was still given 4 years. i'm just telling you what the admissions officer told me. he said if it was really important to you, you should try to express that to your admissions officer, and they will probably review you again.

My daughter is a freshman in the Lynch School of Education and she only received 3 years of housing. She is not in the honors program.

Wait, the top 15% of students were guaranteed 4 years of housing?

In that case, I feel slightly more proud of myself.
