42 grand in grants. Thank you USC!

I knew USC was generous, but didn't realize they were this generous! Awesome news to wake up to knowing nearly 80% of my college fees are paid for!

Nice. I received about 26,000 in grants for 2012-2013. Really not too bad.

NICE… what was your parent’s financial situation like if you don’t mind me asking?

how do you know already? I thought it doesn’t come out until mid April.
Oh, did you apply for Dec. 1st grants?

Mom makes $40k a year and my dad is currently unemployed with some medical bills. I kept getting a bunch of e-mails from the FA office requesting a lot of info until like the second week of March, so I’m glad I went through all that trouble!

Interesting. My parents had a great year last year then my mom lost her job and can’t find work. My dad’s job doesn’t have a stable income and it hasn’t been a good year (no pay stubs to submit). SC’ has requested a TON of documents over the last couple of weeks so hopefully they are putting together a nice package for me! I really want to go to USC!

Posted in another thread: As Alamemom always likes to remind people (where are you, Alamemom), FA packages you see online may not be complete yet. They can get better in the next few weeks. In the past, only when you get your official letter or email are they done.

Is it possible that your financial aid plan can get worse when everything is finalized?

Wait, if I obtain an outside scholarship (local philanthropist here gives quite a few big ones to promising business majors, in the 5-10k range), will that take away from the grant money in my FA package or the loan/work-study part?

tash,

Please skim through the later posts in the financial aid thread. Alamemom has devoted countless hours to researching the subject and discussing at length SC policies and how parents can calculate possible packages of aid.

Until the final letter is sent to you, financial aid packages are still being compiled. She has an explanation about this due to federal grants, deadlines and other complicated reasons. Parents in previous years were upset when they noted figures before the formal letter arrived with the complete package explained.

Also, if there is a sudden change in circumstances please let the financial aid office know. They cannot make financial adjustments if they have not been informed.

If you have questions here is the financial aid website: www.usc.edu/financial aid.

When should packages be finalized?

Sorry to intrude in this thread, but before you submit your tax return verification, will you not be able to see your financial aid package?

I got an email saying my fin aid package was ready but it’s not :|
