4th year language

would it be bad if I didn't take a 4th year language? what about a 4th (senior) year history? i'll definitely be taking quite a number of APs next year--6 or 7--but would it be bad if I just didn't take AP Spanish and/or AP Euro?

i'm confused...I lost u somewhere.
based on what I understood, it shudn't look bad either way....do what you want to do at this case...if u like European History then do so...since both shows the same level of rigor....from my Point of view.

so if i only have 3 years of spanish it wouldn't look bad? cuz the app says "four years of foreign language."

what if i didn't take either Spanish OR Euro?

what does the app says about "four years of foreign lang"? does it say it's preferred? if it does...the best bet would be to take AP Spanish...of course...if I was u..I'd base it a bit more on if I'm interested in taking AP Spanish or Euro or neither of them if there are no "requirements" by MIT that u HAVE to take 4th year of spanish.

hmm does anyone know for sure about this?

According to the common data set, MIT recommends (but does not require) two years of foreign language and two years of social studies.

wow thanks! maybe i can take:
-ap chem
-ap physics C
-electronics (goes with physics)
-ap macro/microeconomics
-ap calc
-ap gov/politics
-ap english
-study
-gym

Don't worry about "look good" or "look bad" in terms of MIT admissions. REALLY. Do what you want to do, and do it very thoroughly. If you don't like Spanish, take the classes you do like.

lol great, i was just wondering if there was a requirement.

maybe i'll take AP stat and AP euro instead of physics C

but Physics is for cool people

My son was accepted EA this year. He took three years of Spanish (including AP Spanish Language last year); he did not take any language course this (senior) year.

oh, but I won't be taking AP Spanish

I was accepted EA this year, and I didn't take a senior year language. My last foreign language class was the class before AP French.

lol yeah, i guess taking AP __ before senior year is good, but i won't be taking an AP language class at all. is there a requirement??

btw i play tennis too yay

Narcissa,

I didn't take AP foreign language. I took foreign language up to the class BEFORE the AP level.

As it all worked out fine for me, I'm thinking an AP language class is NOT a requirement.

oooooh
i get it, sorry--it was a misreading=)
ohh, so you're like me. thanks for the info!

I did this too. Except I did level 3 in sophomore year, so I ended up with an extremely softcore foreign language quota of two years.

lol i talked to my GC, and she said that since I want to go into some type of business and math course, I should take AP economics instead of AP spanish

Haha Narcissa I gave up AP foreign language to take intermediate level microeconomics at the state university. It's freaky how we're like the same (I glanced at the WTP thread today...good luck!)

^haha wow cool. are you going to be an engineer at MIT?
