Hi guys!! I know this time of the year everyone's busy doing their Commonapp. (Trust me, so am I).
SO, I had a question (one out of many, it seams). Does anyone know for sure if the 500 word on the personal statement is a cap, or just a recommendation?

I read somewhere that Common App now says it is required no longer recommended as it was for a couple years.

^I have no idea where your read that. It’s a recommendation, and you can write essays that are +500 words if you want.

I saw the same thing collegehelp1 did. I thought it’s now required…

I found this in the Common App support center:

“Because the essay is an uploaded document, the online system cannot enforce a word count. Nonetheless, applicants are expected to adhere to the instructions specifying a range of 250-500 words. Since this essay must be uploaded, the file cannot exceed 500 KB in size and should be in .doc, .docx, .wpd, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, or .txt format.”

Thanks everyone!

And MW: that makes sense!

Also, what about attaching a resume? Does anyone know where one would do that? And if we attach one, how exactly do we still fill out the commonapp stuff without being redundant?
