<p>The supplemental essay is 1000 words max. I have about 500. Will probably finish with around 600. Is that ok? How important is staying close to the limit in the supplemental? The prompt is the one that asks how your background has influenced the types of problems you want to solve.</p>

<p>Really no need to bump… this forum isn’t so busy that your post dropped down the list! If you have said all you have to say on the topic, then stop. They really don’t want you to go OVER the limit. That said, Mudd gives you enough space to really explain yourself. Be sure you are giving an in-depth, sincere answer to the question. I think my D’s answer to that particular question was about 700 words, and she got in. But it is far more important WHAT you say than how close to the limit you are.</p>
<p>Thanks for the reply. Usually people say you should stick as close to the limit as possible. So i was a little worried. And wow, they have the same prompt every year? I thought colleges change them yearly…</p>
