6 IB classes vs 7 IB classes

I'm a sophomore in high school and I am debating taking 6 or 7 IB classes next year. I'm considering taking either Biology and Chemistry, or Biology, Chemistry, and Film. What do you recommend?

If you could mention the classes it would be great. But, 7 IB classes wouldn’t be bad. Usually at my school, students take either 7 IB, or 6 IB and 1 AP. If you do HL Bio and HL Chem, I would recommend taking only 6 IB. I wish I had done that. (Make sure you take the AP Chemistry exam though, because you get more credit for a 5 on AP Chem (one year) than a 7 in IB Chem HL (two years).

math, history of the americas, latin, theory of knowledge, biology, chemistry, and film @NeuroADResearch thank you!!

Oooh! Okay…so TOK is not bad at all. Really easy! Biology SL or HL are good. Chem HL is more detailed than AP Chem especially second year IB Chem, where my class did Organic Chem and Biochemistry options. Film?! That is too cool, wish I was offered that. Is than an interest of yours. If it is than HL for sure. HL History is crazy in the US. So much content has to be perfected in such little time. I would do SL if it is a possible option. Also, HL History takes a lot of your time away. I would do SL Latin, unless you plan on studying language. If you plan on studying medicine SL Latin would help also.

So…

HL Film
HL Biology (second year options vary from plants to neurology (my interest!)
HL Chemistry (second year: a TON of options)
SL Mathematics (basic calculus ab with probability; take ap calc ab/bc for credit though)
SL History of the Americas (much better than the HL History I am taking)
SL Latin
TOK (easy)

This advice is based on all the mistakes I have made in the IB program, even just from choosing the IB program at my school. I was required to take HL History and HL English, my worst areas. I am a science and math person, so I chose HL chemistry (not hard, but interesting, yet wish I took HL bio).

Good luck!

@NeuroAdResearch

I forgot to mention HL English! I’m sorry! At my school its required to take HL History and HL English, which sounds terrible. But thank you for your advice! I’m thinking of doing

HL History :frowning:
HL English
HL Biology
debating between SL and HL Chemistry
SL Mathematics
SL Latin
TOK

Also, which one do you think is better, AB/BC Calculus?

Thank you!!

Good class-choice. I did the exact same just with HL Chem, which wasn’t bad, just my teacher made class grades reflect our knowledge in chemistry.

I am currently in Mathematics SL, (ap calc ab), and signed up for the calc bc exam. I am studying on my own and so far there is a lot more to learn, but its doable. Plus, if I fail (3/5 score), I get an AB subscore. So I would still get ap calc ab credit. I have heard though that calc bc is hard. If you get 50% you get a 5 (rumor, I am not sure).

@NeuroADResearch Yes, that’s what I’ve heard too. I’m still debating between the two, and I have no idea which one to choose. I’m probably going to stick with AB because I’m taking an extra IB subject, but I’m still not sure.
