Everyone always seems to talk about some super-genius they know who got a 2400. However, no one ever seems to mention the lowest score they have ever seen. Does anyone know anyone who got a 600 / 2400 (or at least came close)?

its harder to get a 600 than a 2400

lol ya when I was at a party a kid started talking about how he got a 600 (old SATs) and was really happy when he finally got a 800 and stopped trying

I know etti. There were 124 who got a 600, compared to 238 who got 2400. It seems like it would be almost impossible for someone to get everything wrong, which is why I am asking if anyone has seen it. (The lowest I saw was an 800 / 2400).

I know one 2400, but nothing lower than 1200.

Man, i should try to acheive that 600 score. Maybe that will make me unique in college admission. hmm

I've seen a 1000/2400 on the psat.

I've seen 1000/2400 as well

It would be hard to answer every/almost every question and get a 600. You would need to actively seek wrong answers - I would actually be pretty impressed to see someone omit 0 and score a 600 (IF the person went in intending to do so...)

What you do is in June, when you have sent in your deposit to the college, take the SAT and get every question wrong. See what score you get. I want to try it, but 5 hours is not worth my time.

i once heard a rumor that some kid intentionally answered every question wrong on the old SAT and got a 400. to prove to colleges that he wasn't plain retarded, he also got a 36 on the ACT.

however, you wouldn't need to get EVERY question wrong. If you work out the algebra with the -1/4 wrong answer penalty, with x = number of questions correct and y = number of total questions,
x - (y-x)/4 = 0
4x - y + x = 0
5x = y
x = y/5

So you could answer 20% of the questions correctly and the rest wrong and still get a 200 on a section...

highest i know is 2350 and lowest i know is 1320

Maybe someone should take the test and purposely get everything wrong and then score 2300+. Shows commitment and dedication.

no that wouldn't be showing commitment and dedication....that would be being stupid because colleges will know.

Thanks for the posts. I am actually not that surprised at the lack of scores approaching 600 b/c many people on CC are ridiculously smart, so they probably have smart friends. The kid I know who got an 800 / 2400 claims to have tried to find the wrong answers but I doubt it b/c he is really stupid.

Although I would never recommend it, I imagine that to score a 600 on the new SAT actually requires quite a bit of intelligence. I doubt there are very many people who could score that low simply because of sheer stupidity... And to get that low would usually require the test-taker to recognize the right answer and not choose it or pick out an obvious wrong answer for EVERY question. You can't be a complete idiot to score a 600. ;)

a girl i know got a 79 on the PSAT.

You're probably right, jlauer95. You can't be a complete idiot b/c it would take a great effort to find all the wrong answers, just as it would the right answers. However, you would have to be pretty stupid to waste your time and money trying to pull off such a useless feat. Despite this I still believe that there are some people who are so stupid and unlucky that they manage to answer everything wrong.

I will probably try to get that score after i got in college.

Last year, 124 people earned this distinction. http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/highered/ra/sat/SATPercentileRanksCompositeCR_M_W.pdf#search=%22SAT%20Percentiles%20Total%20Group%20site%3Acollegeboard.com%20filetype%3Apdf%22
