So yeah... will a sixth grade ISS affect my chances at boarding school? It was just a minor one. The principal wasn't going to do anything but my mom insisted on giving me an ISS. Someone said I called them a name and was picking on them. I don't even remember what it was about.

Will it affect my chances?

Yes. I think a suspension would affect anyone.
Of course, some schools don't even ask about that.

I don't even know if it's on my record.

A suspension is always on your record. It's just that the schools still may not find out.

Okay, whatever.

I'll see if I can get it taken off.

yeah. that kind of thing would really count if they found out...

talk to your mom. what kind of mom does that, anyway?

i mean, parents are usually on your side when it comes to school...

EXACTLY.

When I told my friends, they're like, "Are you serious?! My mom would never do that!"

I was crying on the phone when I was talking to her from school. I was so mad at her. I didn't talk to her for a week. Ughh.. not a good memory.

Yeah, I'll talk to her (Seriuosly) about applying to boarding schools. I'm sure that if she supports me, then she'll ask the principal to take it off. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem since the principal likes me and it was my mom's idea anyway.

on the application forms you have to explain your suspension
they give you a chance to explain your take on the event

this is not a positive thing on an application, you should work really hard next year... maybe some outstanding teacher RECs will overshadow your ISS

Why were you making fun of a kid? Your mom sounds....oddly strict.

The funny thing is, she's not strict at all. I was so surprised that she did this. I was like screaming and crying on the phone. I'm like... my life is practically over. I wanted to just.. run out of school. I remember it was when most of the grade went to camp (my dad said he was going to come down, but he cancelled last minute) so I couldn't get to go. I remember going into the cafeteria with and like...two of my friends were in line. They're like... did you get suspended? And I just threw my food down and starting crying. Ugh... the worst day of my life. I'm even getting a little teary eyed just typing about it. lol.

I'm pretty sure I can get this off my record.

If getting suspended in 6th grade is the worst day of your life, you're very lucky.

Are you serious, JonK? That's how you reacted?

My life is not that long, you know. I'm sure there will be much worse to come.

Probably when my grandma dies. I wouldn't know what I'll do. Ughh.. I don't even like to think about it.

well at that age i'd had some crappy stuff happen that most of my friends hadn't. i wish i was more lucky sometimes.

I'm sorry to hear that.

In a way, I'm sort of glad that a few of my relatives died when I was little. I wasn't as attached to them as I am now. I didn't know them as well, you know? I lost my great grandmother, my grandfather, and my other grandfather, and my great grandfather, all within five years. (From when I was 0 - 5 years old). If all of them died now within five years, I certainly would be a huge mess.

you will be just fine

Jonathan, life's lessons can be very difficult at times. Did your Mom give you a reason for her actions? Mom's ususally have reasons for doing what they do even though it may be hard to accept them. Take it easy, think it through and you'll work it all out. You seem like a great kid. Hang in there.

How did this get bumped from June 15, 2006 to today? And why? (These are rhetorical questions.) One can only hope that Jonathan1 has collected himself over lo these past 10 months.

I don't know D'yer. I guess I was too tired to catch that.
