700 in Physics good enough?

Hello guys,

I took SAT Physics in Jan and I got 700, which kind of disappointed me. I was not really pleased with my performance on test day. Anyway, what do you think about this score. I plan to apply to a lot of schools, but I am aiming at the top schools. I am an international student and I really want to get good scores on all my tests. Should I retake? I have 760 in Bio.

Thanks

It really depends on the school you are applying. It is low for MIT.
Considering average to be around 660, it is not standing out from others at all.

I got a 730 and the percentile was only 62%, so I’d imagine it would be around 55% for 700, not high enough. I’d shoot for 750 and above.

I agree with the others - although 700 might be a good score for other tests, it’s like the 50/60th percentile for physics because the curve is so generous. I suggest you retake or go for another subject.

Half the battle is literally just exposing yourself to everything you’ll encounter. If you’ve only taken 2/3 of the stuff on SAT Physics, then study and try again.

I prepped using Barron’s, but I found that the book is not even close to the real thing. The test had questions that were more logical than theoretical. Also, I have to admit, I let my emotions get to me. If I choose to retake it, can anyone recommend a better prep book or strategy?

Unfortunately, No.
Almost everyone gets an 800. Very low percentile. It’d have been good if the subject was literature.

Indeed, around 10-15% get 800 in SAT2 Physics. 700 is around 57%.
