720 in Writing

What kind of score will I need to get a 720? When I took the SAT for getting into college I got 4 wrong on the multi and a 6/12(lolz) on the essay for a 650.

Heh, I got a 650 as well but it was -11 (9 wrong) MC and 10/12 essay. I think you just need to up your essay and I need to up my MC :P

Any tips on getting a good essay score? I suck at writing in short amounts of time.

Sigma, I suggest you read what 12 essays are like so you get a feel of what they're looking for.

on Jan 07 SAT I i got 720
I got 11 essay and missed 5 for a raw score of 43

It seems to me that it is better to just write on one good example than on 2 or 3...or at least this is what I gathered from reading the essays at collegeboard.

what if your one example is good, but not good enough? I used one example on one of my SATs and got a nine. according to all my english teachers, the example, although a good one, was not strong enough to support my point of view. So it's better to have at least two (unless you have an one amazingly convincing example).

@Centauri's last post

No.
I think it's great to write 2-4 well-explained examples from different areas and AT MOST 1 from personal experiences.(Those usually suck!)

I missed only 3 from the writing section, wrote an essay with a single "good" example(like you suggested above), got an 8, and 690 from the whole section.

The type of example matters as well, I guess a strong one from literature would be much better than an annoying story when you were 7... bla bla bla (my kind of example :()

I'll trade essay scores for raw scores. haha Ashraf *** i got 11 wrong and a 10 on my essay and i got 630. I think i skipped a problem though or something.

wierd. I missed 10 and I got 650 with 11 on the essay

weird* not wierd!

Buy a writing workbook! As in, an Sat writing workbook. The stuff they use on the multiple choice is virtually the same every time, so once you learn it-it is SO EASY!

that one example thing is very risky. if you don't elaborate enough, you could get a 3. that's what the sample 3s looked like, shorter versions of 6s

there's a score projector online at http://INeedAPencil.com or typical SAT prep books have charts that explain the SAT scoring in depth

keep in mind that the MC is much more valuable than essay....i got a 730, with a 46 MC and 10 essay, but the person 46 MC and 11 essay got a 770.....yeah. =/

I got one wrong on the Writing and a 10 on the essay for a 790. To raise your writing score, I would suggest that you simply take practice tests and see where your weak spots are. For the essay, I would suggest that you just choose one example from literature, one example from current events, and one example from personal experience that you can use for every single essay. Trust me, you'll figure these examples out as you practice, and in the end, these babies work.

@showtunesguy89: But how do you come up with three good examples in only 25 minutes?

I got a 70 for MC and 10 on the essay. Aim for higher on the MC.

You should come up with the examples as you practice, not during the test. The best way to do this is to write various essays when you practice for the SAT Writing, finding examples from literature, current events, and personal experience that work for every essay.

lol, so superficial. examples that work for every essay. Why do they even call their essay "essays", all it is... is not an essay..

aside from my lame rant there, excellent advice showtunesguy, great idea.
