i got a 780 writing but a 9 on essay. I heard that many colleges look at your SAT essay and maybe??? use it for admissions? (I'm normally a fantastic writer - I won "best writer in my grade" award; i just get screwed by time/pressure)
What will ivies think? that i lied about my writing awards or that my college essays are not authentic?

the 8-9 range isn’t bad. it’s just not good. it’s basically the middle where it won’t hurt, but it won’t help. if you got a 780, that’s spectacular. i’m not even sure if they even look at the essay grade. maybe I’m wrong.

From what I’ve heard, the writing score is not that important (it’s too new for colleges to effectively use it), so having a less impressive essay score probably won’t hurt you in the least. If you write a great admissions essay, which I’m sure you can do, you should be fine. Good Luck!

I had a 35 English and 9 Essay on my ACT…=/

They will think SAT writing is bs. For exactly the same reasons (writing under time/pressure), many colleges don’t consider SAT writing to be an accurate indication of your writing ability.

i had a 35 english but a 7 essay so a 31 eng/writing

sure hope they dont care.

My S got 800 in Writing but only 9 in essay. I guess he is not good writing under pressure…

I have been told that sometimes they compare the essay to the essay you send in to see if they are written by the same person. If you made 780 with a 9 essay, then you are one heck of an editor.
