I am considering taking eight AP classes next year, my sophomore year. Please read my whole post before calling me crazy. I will actually take the time to study these and if I don't feel confident by the time to sign up for the exam, I won't take them. It is as simple as that.

I would like to take the class for three and self study five.

AP US History (class)
AP Human Geog (class)
AP Psych (class)
AP Microeconomics (self-study)
AP Macroeconomics (self-study)
AP US Government (self-study)
AP Comparative Government (self-study)
AP Bio (self-study)

For microeconomics and macroeconomics, I am fairly confident I could get a five today without studying. I scored a 960 (48/50) in Academic Decathlon on the economics section. I have talked to numerous people who told me that they took the AP Econ exams with just their knowledge in Academic Decathlon. I would go a step farther and really study it.

For US Gov. and Comp. Gov., I would self study using a prep book. I've heard reading the Comp. Gov. guide by Ethel Woods would get you a 5 with one read through. I took some US Government practice tests and I did very well on them. I am well versed in all aspects of government. After all, I want to be a politician :P

AP Bio, I have heard, is mainly memorization. My memory is almost photographic, so I would have no problem with that. I would be taking a Honors Biology and studying for the exam with Campbell's Biology 8th edition, as well as a good prep book.

Also, for AP Psych and AP US History, I already know most of the material. I bought 5 Steps to a 5 and Barron's for psych and I have went through those thoroughly. My team won the National History Bowl for my state and I have read the AMSCO book for APUSH, so it won't be as much work for me.

Now, considering these aren't the hardest exams, can I do it?

I think you would do well on those exams, since you already had some background information on it.

To be honest, I think you will do a great job next year!
Just re-read AMSCO, read Ethel Woods, listen in class, and hopefully do good in AcDec.
Don’t slack off like me, :/

That’s a lot of self studying for just your sophomore year. You should push back taking Bio until you take the class. That way it’s a lot less outside of school school work to do, and you have the added benefit of it showing up on your HS transcript.
Apart from Bio, it seems like you’re well prepared for the tests.
(Although 7 is still a lot to take in one year)

Go for it! You sound well prepared and confident, and if you have a near photographic memory nothing could be TOO hard, right? ;)

Sounds good. Just to let you know you can’t say you are taking 8 classes when you are only really taking 3. There’s a big difference to colleges. If I were you I would hold off bio until you take the class. As for all of them by not taking the class you will not have the benefit of practicing the frqs. You really need a teacher or professional to read your frqs for each practice test you take. You also need practice. Scoring well on the frqs takes time because each require you write in a different style and include subtle pieces that most books don’t mention. But good luck. You can always pay $10 at any time to hide an ap score.

i’d say go for it! those are all relatively manageable self-studies and your courseload isn’t particularly overwhelming. By getting all of the filler AP’s out of the way sophomore year, you can focus on the bigger, more important ones likes Chem, Calc BC, Eng Lang, Euro, etc in junior year. And you’d have racked up enough tests so you wouldnt need to worry about self studying junior year as well

This is definitely doable but it’s going to take being on the top of your game all year long. If you can get good grades while finding the time to study the other APs out of class, you’ll ultimately be successful. Good luck and don’t be disappointed if you don’t score as well on the AP exams as you had wanted to because you have a lot on your hands.

You’ll do fine, it’s all about what effort you put in. Five self-study is a little over the top, but I say you can do it if you’re dedicated enough. Don’t die from exhaustion though haha

Based on the information you provided, I also think you’ll do fine.

You definitely can, but just don’t stress out too much. I’ve seen cases where kids try to self-study AP subjects, and then burn out due to pressure and stuff.

I’d suggest you hold off on the AP Bio, but besides that you are fine if you feel that you feel that can do it ;] You’re doing a great job as an upcoming sophomore, so don’t feel bad if you end up dropping a few of the exams.

Well, I got a b in my honors physics class last year, so I’m not eligible to take any AP science classes, unfortunately.

Taking the AP class looks better than self study because it’s on your transcript, so save yourself some stress and just hold off on AP Bio. Other than that, just focus, try your hardest, and make sure you do like you said and skip the exam if you just can’t do it.

Oh, 3 classes and 5 self-studies. Easy enough.

Normally I’d say that this is too much, but considering your situation, I think you’ll do fine. I’d only caution you that the few weeks leading up to/during test time WILL be stressful, but you seem very capable. Good luck! :)

I think you should do just fine, you seem capable/responsible.

I’m planning to take 9 AP’s sophomore year…but six of them are classes I’m actually taking so it’s not as bad I’m also doing it rather recklessly…while you’re actually planing XD
