So I talked to an admissions councilor at UC Berkeley over the summer and she tallied up how many transferable units I have.

It added up to 27.2 from AP Scores, and 25 from my current school.

This semester I am taking 16 units, and next semester I had planned on taking 18...this puts me over by 6 credits, but I really don't want to end up taking only 3 classes next semester in case I don't get in and have to stay at my current school.

Since some of these credits are from AP Scores can I elect not to count them towards a total credit count? Or if they are already on my transcript at my current school, am I stuck with them?

Also, do credits from activity classes like Rock Climbing and Yoga count towards it as well?

If you have only attended a community college, there is no unit cap. There is a maximum number of units that will be counted toward graduation (70) but you will get subject credit for all of your coursework.

I’m not at a community college, I’m at a private four year. But, for anyone else with the same question, I emailed the admissions councilor I had met with and here’s what she said:

“You get AP credits regardless and AP units never put you over the maximum. So you don’t have to include the AP units in your unit count, but they can be used to help you meet units if needed, and they NEVER put you over units. I hope I understood your question and that info helps.”

Make sure you have a solid 60 UC-transferable units (you won’t know for sure, but most courses in solid academic disciplines should count; rock climbing and yoga do not - although PE can count up to a certain number of units) to meet the admission eligibility requirement.
