Yup, those are my stats. I'm applying to a bunch of other SUNYs, but I was wondering if it were worth applying to bing. I also have good extra-curriculars and community service and work, and good reccomendations/essay, etc (i hope)

To be rather straightfoward: you can’t honestly expect us to give you any sort of recommendation based upon two numbers, right?

Keep in mind they received over 30,000 applications this year. There is more to it than just your numbers. With that in mind, I highly recommend you apply and give it your all. You will never regret the outcome.

Actually you can. Come on, don’t tell me you think the admissions office is going to read all those applications? They don’t have the resources read 30,000 applications in detail. Obviously, they’re gonna use numbers as a cut-off point. I would say harpur is a reach for you. But Watson might take you in.

Just like SUNY Geneseo whose recent Class Profile was an average SAT of 1340 and GPA of 94 both schools admit students with lower GPAs and SAT Scores.

Refer to Binghamton’s most recent Class Profile below.

I agree with markopolo: it is more than just these two numbers but I am sure there is some sort of cutoff based on numbers. From what I understand Geneseo just looks at applications with a 1200 SAT score and above. I am sure Binghamton is the same. So you are above that. Actually, if you look at the mid 50% for Binghamton the SAT score is 1190-1360.

I think your application would be looked at but you need more than just two numbers.

I doubt there is just “one” number cutoff before they toss your application into the “don’t bother” bin.

You MUST keep in mind that several other factors can determine what numbers they’d be willing to accept:

() At many schools, race IS a factor;
() The rigor of your HS transcript, and/or what school you are applying from;
() What school you are applying to (ie: Decker/SOM vs CCPA/Harpur);
() Special talents, unique attributes; etc.

I am positive there isn’t just a magical number where they just decide to not even bother looking at your application. Every single application and all its “pieces” are scanned into a database, and counselors can then browse through them on a computer.

For example, people with very great “numbers” often get rejected from Binghamton, if the rest of their application is weak. Keep in mind this entire process is holistic, and typically no single number will make/break your application. However, it is definitely worth noting that emphasis is placed on your GPA/SAT. I do not think, however, that they instantly weed out 15,000 applications.

I’d say your chances would be slim. Waitlist at best.

Most other SUNYs I’d say you have a good chance.

I think you should definitely apply. I applied very early and had very similar numbers (SAT Score and GPA to you) and got my acceptance letter in the mail last week. I had good EC’s as well. Best of luck :)

Is your acceptance for fall 2010 as a freshman or did you apply as a transfer student for spring?

Apply but be realistic, this school is a reach for you, I was waitlisted with much better stats last year. Last year, it did seem there was a 1350 SAT cut-off unless you were a minority, out of state ,or had some other hook. I did not get in with a 1320 SAT and 3.9 average, tons of ec’s , and 6 AP’s.
