I currently have a 89.27 Unweighted/ 93.5 Weighted GPA Beginning Junior Year. First of all, i want to know what that would be for a 4.0 GPA. My Class Rank is 139/572.
My hopes are to get into Georgia Tech for pre-med for college. I am not sure if I even have a chance at going to Georgia Tech. I want to know if I still have a chance to bring my GPA up in order to get in Georgia Tech or a similar school. I am taking 3 AP courses this year and 3 Honors classes. I have already taken 2 AP’s and 7 Honors classes during my Freshmen and Sophomore years. I want to know what i exactly have to maintain in order to get even noticed for Georgia Tech. I am at least striving for a 3.7, but I am not sure if i am able to do that. My PSAT score last year was a 1300, so i dont know if that helps in anyway, and i know i can improve that score as well as my grades since I might take one or two regular classes Senior year. I am just afraid that I have ruined my chances of getting into a good school since I have a friend that applied last year to Georgia Tech that had a 4.0, took many AP classes, and was involved in various extra-curicular activities.
Also, does Georgia Tech care about our Weighted GPA’s since I am confused as to if I convert my Weighted or Non-weighted GPA.
BTW, I was on the Robotics Team Freshmen year and JV Tennis Team in Sophmore year. I also did Model UN both years and I started doing Student Ambassadors last year. Is that enough extra-curricular activites?
Thank you so much for your time and Feedback,
EF
An 89 unweighted is about 3.4/3.5 out of 4.0.
Are you willing to share what state you are from? It would help to estimate your PSAT standing.
I’m sorry to be blunt, but I believe it is difficult for you to get in. I am not particularly familiar with Georgia Tech pre-med, but your stats are lacking (have you taken the SAT or ACT?). If you check out the Common Data Set for Georgia Tech, they place strong emphasis on your GPA but not your class rank. Additionally, you lack bio/med related extracurriculars, which may be detrimental for applying to Georgia Tech with a pre-med major.
You have to first convert each of your classes to a 4 point scale. The most accurate was is to find your schools grading scale. It is either in your school handbook or you can find it by searching for " school profile". Some schools use +'s and -'s and some don’t. Just add up the points for each class and divide by the number of classes.
@TacticalPotato I happen to live in Georgia. I am planning on taking the SAT this year, and i know i can do way better on my PSAT this year. For my PSAT last year, I was in 90th Percentile Nationally this year. Would you also recommend any bio/med related extracuriculars besides HOSA?
Thanks for the feedback
Research opportunities in labs, if possible. Get that PSAT up because the Georgia semifinalist cutoff is high (220) and try to take the SAT early because junior year is overwhelming (For me, I had 5 APs).
@TacticalPotato I will work as hard as I can to get the PSAT score up as well as my GPA.Thank you again for your help.
No problem, good luck and have fun! You’re still a whole year away
