8th Grader URGENT!!

These type of kids scare the **** out of me! Obsessing about college in 8th grade! Well this is actually not that bad, I’ve seen six graders obsess over Harvard -_- . In any case, you do realize that colleges start looking at your grades and such from high-school onward right? Meaning 9th grade onwards.

Relax, take a chill pill, play Halo Reach!

I think you’re on the right track to getting into a great college. But do what you WANT to do, not what you think Harvard wants you to do. It’s okay to have a dream, but ‘why harvard’ is probably a good question to ask yourself. You’ll work very hard to get there, you might just end up there, but then what? Find what you enjoy doing and then find the college that’s best for you. There are a lot of other great schools. What if you decide you love Physics and Chem and Princeton is consequently the best place for you?

The point is, just do your best at whatever it is you love, and then see what turns out right for you. Aim for a great college, not just Harvard, because you might fit in best somewhere else.

And come back to CC junior year. Find your passion till then and then figure out what college works for you. (And i’m not saying don’t be the best in school. Just don’t be the best for a college, rather for yourself.)

Well, I’m a eighth grader, so I know first hand how to you feel. Until last year, I was a student in a private school, but I transfered to another high school, so yeah… But I think my high school ranked no. one or two in the whole state I’m in so it doesn’t really matters. Recently I got a 89.4 percent on my SS, embarassing to say much, I cried, oh well.
I’m surprised you took all those tests!!! But I didn’t because I always missed it. My advice, Harvard like leadership people, if ya got Student Council, join it. Too bad I was a few votes away from being the President. Anyways, from what I saw on your forum, I was stunned, you can really get in Harvard, no kidding.

I understnad that you wanna learn so many language, as I said, I was stunned by you, but personally, I’m fluent in two languages and three different dialects, so if you really want to, you can do it… Yep, did I mention I am Nobody426, the eighth grader who just claimed knowing how did you feel?

Don’t make Japanese a priority  It’s a dying country.

A lot happens in 4 years buddy, both good and bad.

Don’t make Harvard the goal of your life, make life the goal of your life.

If you obsess over college for the next 4 years you will be uttely miserable. You will be diagnosed with anxiety and depression within the 1st quarter of your freshman year and will be suicidal by second semester.

Have fun. Lighten up. I’m a high school senior and I have only been worrying about college for about a year and my sanity has worn thin. Do what you like. F**k your parents, who cares what they think? Clearly you are very bright so you will have no problem going to a great school. And like that guy said, the admit rate for Harvard was 6.9%. That means that from a pool of extremely smart and qualified candidates, Harvard (and Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT, etc.) only let in about 7 of every 100 students. Get that through your head. You and your parents need to realize that admissions at the top schools is a complete crapshoot.

Relax.

This thread should be posted on a Harvard info pamphlet or something. All of the posts saying “Do activities that you enjoy and are passionate about rather than ones that will get you into Harvard or any other top school” sound like they all came straight off the Harvard undergraduate admissions website. That doesn’t make them untrue but I just found it funny, personally.

It seems like most of you guys are incredibly jealous that this young middle schooler has dwarfed your achievements and not even in high school yet.

Ivyluvr, I get you. Some people don’t understand that the pursuit of knowledge can be someones interest. It sure is mine, but unfortunately I didn’t realize this until I’ve already been cemented into an average school. From the sounds of it, you’re on a great track, and if this is truly what you want to do, I say go for it.

To be frank, I think ivyluvr’s case is characterized more by “pursuit of prestige” than “knowledge”. S/he has his/her heart set on Harvard because it’s Harvard. If the OP wanted knowledge s/he could find it at any other school, not just the big ol’ H. I mean, look at the user name “ivyluvr”… sure doesn’t say “knowledgeluvr”.

Yes.
pursuit of knowledge != pursuit of harvard.

I don’t whether to laugh or cry; this thread is awful + hilarious.

Dude. You’re in 8th grade. Really???

Why do you talk about recs when you aren’t even in High School… lol

obvious ■■■■■ is successful

…

■■■■ you are such a fail!!! Every 8th grader who is anyone scored >2100 in 8th grade.

Wow you will get nowhere in life… because you don’t have one.

Me thinks this is a ■■■■■.

If it is not a ■■■■■, then I truly feel sorry for the life he has.

Its impossible to become fluent in Arabic or Mandarin after just 4 years unless you are living in China or an Arab country. I know 3 languages and am studying Arabic and Mandarin right now, so I know what I am talking about, especially given my high aptitude for language. Italian and French are romance languages, so those are much more easily doable. Also, you definitely need a teacher for at least Mandarin (not necessarily Arabic if you have a background, though it will take longer to learn without one regardless of having a background) because you need to learn the linguistics of the language (i.e. tongue position on many sounds) to properly learn to speak, as Mandarin is not a romance language (neither is Arabic).

I’m just curious. Are you taking calculus at the moment? I took calc II my senior year, and some of my friends took calc III.

Im part of JSA. Does JSA have middle Schoolers??

The OP is likely not real, though the OP obviously captures the mindset of some 8th graders and their families who are real.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with children of any age working hard in school, having intellectual interests, and developing enjoyable extra-curriculars that they seek to excel at.

However, there IS something seriously wrong with young children WORRIED about college, FEELING URGENT, and judging themselves as ‘bad’ when by any objective standard they are already overachieving. That should be a red flag that needs to be dealt with; ideally by parents who love their children enough to take care of their wellbeing and mental health.

Hahaha jclee123 that was freaking hilarious.
