Hello, I'm looking forward to hearing from Vassar soon and hoping for an acceptance later this week (fingers crossed!!!). I enjoyed the school when I visited and loved the campus, but I'm wondering why only 91% returned for sophomore year according the statistics on college board? Can anyone talk to this? It seems very low, I thought most schools of this caliber retained 95%+.

so i got accepted =) YAY!!!! I'm really excited, I got nervous because I got waitlisted by Barnard, but luckily admitted into Vassar (and Wellesley and Wesleyan to boot!).

Now I really really want to know the answer to my question. Why is the retention rate on the lower side? Anyone have any insight?

Congratulations. My daughter is a Freshmen who loves Vassar. She has not mentioned a large number of unhappy people but you have a good question.

You might call the Admissions office and as them to explain the retention rate. I have never looked that statistics but their 4 and 5 year graduation rates seem to be in line with their peers. It is not their job to convince you to come instead of the other way around so make them do their work!

You have some great choices.

Good luck.

I have seen higher retention rate statistics elsewhere for Vassar, but I'm fairly sure 91% is not that low for a small school in a small town anyway. There are plenty of reasons a particular person would want to leave any given school (Poughkeepsie, male/female ratio, etc). I would not worry about this statistic.
