Male vs. Female

Do you think Vassar accepts guys with lower stats or is this just a myth. Because I have lower stats than their average but I have it in my head that since Vassar used to be an all girls college that because I am a male that I have a much better chance of getting in. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

It’s so much about the stats, but about the pool. Vassar has been trying to get their male-to-female ratio as close to an equilibrium as possible. But because the school started out as being all-female, and has a significantly higher yield of female applicants than male, the school winds up having more selectivity with the girls.

For the guys, as stated before, there are marginally less applicants, so there’s less to compete with. Even if a girl were to have higher stats than you, though, there are less male applicants for YOU to compete with, and as a result you have a greater chance of still being seriously considered.

Sorry if that made absolutely no sense. In any case, Vassar isn’t as keen on stats as other schools, so try not to worry about it too much. Best of luck! :)

last year 21% of the female applicants were admitted, while 34% of the male applicants were admitted.

Just to let you know, these percentages are verifiable through the common data set. I imagine that’s where kolijma got it.

I’m not sure Dramacritic, where you get the idea about the stats from? It seems to me that GPA is very important to them.

That makes me a little nervous for being a girl =.=;;;

This year’s class is 60% women, 40% men (according to their Class of 2014 page).
