9th, 10th or 11th grade?

Hi everyone,

I'm brazilian and I'm considering applying for some boarding schools this year (for next september entry) and I'm really confused w/ the conversion of grades

The brazilian school system starts in February and ends in December, and high school has only 3 years, instead of american's 4 years,
I've already talked with MEC, which is the institute responsible for Education in my country, and since the U.S High school only starts in sep., I have the right to skip one grade, or go back one.

Well, I'm 15 right now and my birthday is Feb. 1998, and I want to know if there's any possibility of me, applying as a "repeat 9th grader", It'd be the best chance for me, due to the school's low acceptance rates

Thanks!

You will be sixteen when you start boarding school next year. That would be too old for 9th. In 10th you’d be a little bit older, probably the same age as the repeaters. In 11th, you would still be a tiny bit on the older side.

To break it down…

MOST 9th graders turn 15 during the school year. You will be turning 17 during next school year.
