9th Grade

Heres my schedule. Tell me what you think.

English I Gifted
Geometry Gifted
Analysis of Functions
Biology I Honors (Really don't feel like taking AP Bio)
AP Intro to Social Sciences (no real SS class for 9th grade)
Speech I
Track and Field(gonna be on track team)
Personal Fitness(required...ugh)
Spanish II
Computing for college and careers

Also gonna play football, my real passion. (5' 9" 150, 4.6 40 yard dash if you wanna know.)

So what do you think of that as a Freshman year?

4x4 block schedule

i think you should get the highest grades possible and stick to football. it sounds like you could get recruited

pretty good

i really wouldnt take that Bio AP freshmen year, enjoy it while it lasts.

"AP Intro to Social Sciences"

Huh?

Yeah, I'm with Kevin. Does that even exist?

Maybe it just means it is preparation for the AP Social Studies classes, no exam involved.

you have a great schedule, here is mine:

French II
English I Honors
Biology I Honors
History Honors
Algebra (first semester) Geometry (second semester)
Powerpoint/Adobe Illustrator
Gym/Health

Competitive dancer 15 hours per week
Dance teacher's assistant
Cross country one year (maybe not doing after this year)
Regular volunteer in hospital and helps research in biology department

What would you guys suggest me to do? Am I at an okay start. I know I don't have many ec's and I don't know what to join

janemac i think ur ec's are pretty good (coming from a fellow freshman)...really impressed. Your schedules good too, except if you have French II Honors that would be great...
btw how do u volunteer in the biology department? Just curious to know how that works.

Me:
World History* (only SS class available for freshman)
Alg. II(took Geo over the summer, and they wouldn't let me take hns..T>T but I'm planning on taking Precalc hns. over the summer)
Bio Honors
LAI Honors*
Chinese II (btw..i'm not a native so I can't skip, and no honors level available, only AP...ridiculous in my opinion)
Gym/Health
Study Hall
*highest grades in all my class

EC:
JV tennis
Clubs: fed challenge, academic decathalon (hard-core for me...competition in 2 weeks cross fingers), literary magazine
track in spring?
volunteer for my dad's company (some research, uploading files, and inputting data, etc.)
volunteer at church
Singing (competitive, i get awards & stuff)

I could burn that 4.6 when I was a freshman (and I was a year younger than everyone else) but I never got to run on the track team (but I was on it) because everyone else was even more beastly, so good luck :P

yeah, that's pretty good guys.

yeah we don't have honors language courses, but i'm taking ap french prep next year which counts as honors credit!

that's great CORE, your ec's are more impressive than mine and i wish i was in algebra 2 right now!

I smell a challenge....

First one to Miami and back wins :P (assuming you're don't live there)

It's a great course load...but...what schools do you want to go to and for what major?

AP intro is a bs course, and not recognized by the college board. Check College board

What state are you from that does not offer ss in 9th grade? It is typical to have to take civics or state history in 9th. Do they weight honors and AP? Is there an AP/IB degree?

My s's 9th was:
Geo (honors)
Bio (honors)
Eng (honors)
French II (honors)
US History (honors)
PE/Health
District Chorus---system required either band, chorus or art

Most importantly schools look at the whole student. They don't want a kid who has burnt themselves out in hs...Take what will help you for your ultimate college degree.

In our s's case, we didn't force him to go past Calc and Physics, he wants to be poli-sci/law, so he will have taken 4 AP (accepted by univ.'s) for history and english. He also took Latin I & II for electives. Decide what you want to major in, and then look at the colleges and what is required. Make your schedule accordingly

ai....
what suks is that in our school
by junior time MANY kids are taking all APs T>T
luckly, i'm not burned out yet >.<

....

and janemac...lets not be humble :D

So if you took AP Bio freshman year, you'd
(a) get to take it while the rest of your classes are still easy, so it's easier than taking it later
(b) never have to take biology ever, ever again.

So if you're ever going to take the class, I'd suggest you take it now/get it over with while it's less painful. (I did that, and got a 5). Just remember to take the SAT IIs at the end of your freshman year, because in a couple years you'll have forgotten it all.

Sounds good.

Me:

1st semester:
Honors English I
Honors World History
Honors Writing 101
Honors Engineering The Future
Honors Applications of Science
Algebra II (No honors offered)
AP Art History

2nd Semester:
Honors English I
Honors World History *
Honors Writing 101 *
Honors Engineering The Future *
Honors Applications of Science *
Honors Precalculus
AP Art History

*= Meets every other day.

You're on. 1...2....3....GO!

One question.
My school requires that after Biology honors, you take chem honors.
Would it be better to take chem honors over the summer and go straight to bio honors?
or take chem honors, and simultaneously take an AP bio online course?

I think I know what county you live in.
