_.:~*~:._ [Official Writing Improvement Stories] _.:~*~:._

It' great that you are going to MIT Physics08, but if you read the first post, you were suppose to post STORIES of HOW YOU improved, not just what your scores are.... by posting only your scores. you are NOT helping ANYONE

It's helping to boost people's confidence :)

Anyway, I went through all the tests in the CB Book and Online Courses. I had been studying through Barron's for the mechanics and grammar. My main weakness was the ID Errors so I basically tried to identify what rule each question was testing me on ( parallel construction, subject-verb agreement, idioms, tense, redundancy..). I took notice whether I was consistently missing a certain type of question and just brushed up on mechanics. Honestly, a lot depends on luck.

thank you for your story!

if you only post your scores but not your story, some people might think whats wrong with them and get frustrated

ikir, go die in a fire.

PSAT: 57
SAT: 800

Blue book all the way. Just memorize that one page with all the rules, practice a bit with Blue Book error IDs, and you're golden.

Props haz, that is quite impressive.

I've only done practice exams:
6/23/07- 620
7/7/07- 750

FOURTEEN DAYS...i don't even know.

610 => 720

110 point boost. Retaking this October.

I didn't study at all. I took Honors British Literature my junior year, which I think helped from March to June, obviously with the 100+ point boost.

Anyways, I hope to get 750, at least, on the October test date.

What I would recommend is writing a few college essays, this may get you in the mood to write in first person, something you need to remember during test day.

Also, the writing section isn't that important, seeing as how top universities, like MIT, don't even go over it. However, if its, lets say above 600, it may help a tiny bit on your application.

the CR thread is getting a lot more attention!! Any Writing Questions and stories????

Soph PSAT (Oct 05): 57
Junior PSAT (Oct 06): 65 - my worst score out of the three subjects
Junior SAT (June 07): 800 (80 MC, 9 Essay) - my best score out of the three subjects

What did I do???...

Took AP English (this didn't help a lot for CR though for some reason...) and crammed a grammar rules sheet in the car on the way to the SAT test center

630 january SAT
730 June Sat (10 essay)
practice multiple choice, especially idioms
write a 4 paragraph essay, it allows for more time, and more well thought out content

Freshmen - 390 -- essay 6
months later - 680 -- essay 10

I had no clue how to even do the SATs when I first took the test.... but after like 20 hours of practice then i was fine.....studied grammar rules loooots.

I didn't know it was possible to get an 800 with an essay score any lower then 10-11. Whats the lowest essay score anyone has recieved while still scoring an 800? What about the most multiple choice questions missed?

I'm pretty sure 9 is the lowest to still get an 800.
