well, I had 690 in March and 800 in June.
I don't really know how I improved...maybe my essay was better?

660 in january, 770 in june! my essay went from an 8 to a 9 (i guess thats just not my forte) but the mc improved i guess..and i did absolutely zero preparation either time
in all honesty, it's ridiculous! but now its over, thank goodness

This is a great writing story. I got 49 on my PSAT, 630 on March SAT with a 6 essay, 780 on the June SAT with a 12 essay. I did two things. 1. i read rocket review writing section 3 times. 2. I did every QAS released and a bunch of barron's practice tests.

December: 660
June: 710
Went from an 8 essay to an 11.

Did lots of practice tests, reviewed grammar rules in "Up Your Score" and read several prep books essay suggestions. ( Sparknotes, Up Your Score, and CC .:) )

Well, my writing went up like crazy in only two weeks

May- 610
June- 720

I can't believe it but...

January: 670 (8 essay)
June: 800 (80 MC, 10 essay)

And I am not a student. I am more than 50 years old and from another country.

That other country doesn't happen to speak English, does it? How come you decided to take the SAT? Just for the hell of it?

Yes, we do not speak English. I am an sat turor without any US college degree.
I wanted to hide this fact: I got a 630 (9 essay) in May.
My goal is a perfect score.

I used to get 560 on the practice tests but i studied my butt off and practiced a lot and i got a 670 on the June test...i am hoping to break 700 next time i take it.
I used Sparknotes for SAT grammar-it helped me improve a lot.

PSAT as junior: 80
SAT May: 800, 11 essay

Honestly, USE THE BLUE BOOK! that's all i used to prep on the writing section, and it really helped. and the stuff about using literary/historical examples on essays is overrated - i used 2 personal examples and 1 historical, and did fine. just write a lot and use 3 relevant examples and you'll get at least 10+ (even if you don't write well).

PSAT junior: 61
March 08 SAT: 670(8 Essay)
June 08 SAT:770(11 Essay)

Got the SAT Writing Sparkchart and quickly breezed it the week before exam. I actually bsed my examples (I said that a movie was a book to suit my needs) but this time I actually like made sure that I varied my sentence structure and used transitions. For example, unlike the sentence I am writing now, the next sentence is a right branching sentence. The SAT is luck based.

=D

wow, i wish i could improve my writing so dramatically! ugh

Writing is by far and away the EASIEST of the three to improve. It was by far my worst subject, but I ended up with a 770 on the SAT after studying and practicing a lot.

as jcy said, just learn the rules and tricks. There are only so many they can throw at you.
