I know it's kinda lame lol. BUt I had to be out for a few days due to an injury and had a delay in getting my doctor's note. Those combined absences resulted in me getting a B due to some wierd grading policy at our school.

Gym doesn't count in our GPA but shows up on our transcript. My rank won't be impacted though.

My problem is though, I 've been a pretty much straight-A student all through high school with the exception of two B's second semester junior year in very hard classes. I got a perfect GPA first semster of last year though. Now, I am a senior who was a deferred applicant at Penn's Huntsman program and I got two more B's this semster in Calc and Physics (easily known as the two hardest APs in our school). SO my midyear report has three B's - gym (ugh), calc, and physics (bleh). Is this the kiss of death???

Athletes in major sports at my school basically get automatic 100s in Gym regardless of effort/participation.

But on topic, I doubt 3 B’s are going to severely impact your chances. Were you deferred from both Huntsman and Penn or just Huntsman and accepted to Penn?

I was deferred from Huntsman…I don’t think the other option is possible. I contaced my admissions officer and he said I was deferred at Huntsman. So I am not sure if my app even reached CAS (my alternate choice) yet…though I am not entirely sure how it works!

Also, I am ranked in the top 1 percent of my school out of class of ~600. I think it should stay around the same even after this semester ( I HOPE at least) due to my courseload weighting since I have one of the hardest ones at our school.

If you apply to Huntsman and you are deferred/rejected, your application is sent to either CAS/Wharton for another review of your application. Many Huntsman applicants get deferred/rejected from the program but are accepted into Wharton or CAS.

I got a B in gym due to drivers ed (which they combine to it).
I have had my license for 1.5 years and have yet to see a ticket like probably half my class. PSHT.

Thanks Jersey! You seem experienced with this…! Did you apply as well?

So does that mean my app has already been to CAS too? Because my AdCom didn’t specify that. My e-mail with the AdCom said:

Thanks for getting in touch. In regards to your first question, Just to clarify your deferral means that you were deferred from the Huntsman Program first, but because you also chose the College as your second choice you will be considered first for the Huntsman Program first and if that does not work out then you’ll be considered for the College. All of this will happen before April and then we will send you a final decision for both programs at that time. If you would like to sent supplemental information you could send it for the Huntsman program since it is what you will be considered for first, but any general updates are helpful for either Huntsman or the College.

In general, there is very little that you need to change about your application. Be sure to keep up your grades and have your counselor send us your mid-year report. I do recommend that towards the end of January if Penn is still your top choice that you send us a letter letting us know that so that I have that information when I present your application to the committee. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions.

Soo is this basically what you’re saying? I am not sure if I understand correctly…?
