When I first got my license as a junior, I didn't have my own car yet. I took the bus when it came to school and had my mom's van for the nights/weekends I needed it. I got my own the following summer--a 16 year old Acura that had been my grandparents since it was new in 1988 so I had one to drive to and from school to with as a senior, ending my time on the bus. It lasted me over two years before developing an oil leak in this past fall. Now I have a 1996 Volvo 850, another castoff from my grandparents that was purchased new. Based on the 65K on the engine and the fact that it's a Volvo it should last me a good while. I need it now more than ever since I'm a commuter at college.

I also inherited an Acura. V6 Legend, 1988, first gen. 332,000 miles and still going strong, with no smoke, vibration, or problems.

I'm still buying 10 gallons at a time in the hope that gas prices will go down.

You are gunna have to wait until the next president comes..
Well, he might wage a war too, depending on his mood.

Actually I'm gonna be carless in 3-4 months so whatever. I'm trying to spend as little as possible on gas for the time being. And as little as possible on car maintenance.

only? that pretty much fills up my tank!

ninja.of.love---congrats on that mileage! I didn't have smoke or vibration either, just the oil leak (mine was the 1988 V6 model as well). It had 109K on it and I was able to get some cash for it (a guy who was a mechanic bought it, fixed it, and gave it to his girlfriend).

The only real problem I ever had with the car other than that was the ball joints, but I guess that happens over time with all the winding roads in western PA (it wears them out quick). The joints were probably the originals.

Mine was gold with an auto tranny, what color/tranny is yours? And do you have the sedan like I had or the coupe?

I got mine summer between junior and senior year of high school.

Apparently my camry can fetch at least $4500 if I sell it in a few months. Good....maybe some of my spending money can come out of there.

Actually 10 gallons almost fills up my tank too....the gas tank's only like 15 gallons, but anyway I usually don't run it dry. And if I were to buy 5gal at a time, it's too much of a pain in the ass. And I figured gas prices aren't going anywhere so I filled up....$51.65 omg. There goes money I don't have.

wow... what are your gas prices like? it's around $30 for me to completely fill my car right now. $2.90 a gallon...

i don't get a car-- i share a 2000 honda crv with my mommy. it's fine because i can get it on evenings/weekends, which is pretty much the only time i drive, and there is NO parking at my school anyway (kids literally get to school for a parking spot an hour and a half before class starts).

I got an 06 Honda CRV the fall of my junior year...

I got a 1987 Oldmobile Cutlass Cierra on my 16th birthday (permit). It was the fall of my Junior year. It was my parent's old car that they had bought 2 years earlier. I pay for gas and expenses (inspection, maintence, etc...) but my parents pay for the insurance and registration.

All of you with the Hondas and the ricers stop crying. Your 4-cyl 2.0L doesnt use any gas when compared to my Pontiac Trans Am V8 5.7L. I gladly pay for my gas when I hear it growl!

My parents bought me a new Nissan Frontier for my 16th birthday. I got to drive it a couple months later when I got my license. Luckily, my parents pay for my gas since they don't pay for their own (company allowances).

AFPrep850 - My family has been through many, many Legends. I'm driving a 1988 Gold manual 4 door. My brother is driving a 1988 Gold manual 4 door (over 280k). My dad is driving a 1990 Green manual coupe (over 290k). My mom is driving a Black 1989 automatic 4 door (230k+ I think). We gave my grandfather a Blue 1988 4 door automatic as well a few years ago but he traded it in.

The ball joints on mine had to be replaced about 18 months ago. Even with how much I love my car, it's not nearly as entertaining or satisfying as good ol' pedal power.

got it when i had a permit.. got a new bmw 3 class but i traded my bad x5 for the 07' wrangler..

before i even had my permit, lol 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85. It sure loves to drink gas though. haha i know how you feel Acere

Woah, that's a lot of legends! Have you ever been to www.acura-legend.com? It's a community of Legend enthusiasts complete with message boards.

Well here in California, it costs me $3.31 for a gallon of regular at the cheapest branded gas station within a 3 mile radius of my house. And I'm only getting 23-24mpg grrr. At times I wish I had a prius.
