ok, so I just transferred here following my freshman year and am curious about a couple of things...

First, how hard is it to get a 3.8+ GPA here in the College of Arts and Sciences??
I realize that's a subjective question depending on who answers it, but is it doable? with how much effort? For reference, I got a 4.0 while taking 19 hours in each of my first two semesters at a top 60 school, but I realize this is a moderately different ballgame, so to speak. This semester I'm 'only' taking 16 hours

I see the average GPA for students accepted to McIntire is about 3.6, so obviously at least that's feasible...but how difficult is it?

Also, I have been made aware of thecourseforum but I'm curious as to whether anyone here could give me any input on any of these classes:

comm1800 is not difficult, but you just have to stick through with the material they provide you. comm2010 can be tricky and exams are very important - make sure you study a lot. stat 2120 really depends on your professor. you will have weekly hw’s online, though if you take it in the summer you won’t have them.

As far as GPA is concerned…there’s a famous phrase uttered at transfer orientation: “Expect your GPA to drop .5 to 1.0 points after your first semester.” I would say that it’s definitely possible to get a 3.8 in CLAS, although it is very much dependent upon your schedule among other things, but for that first semester, it may be a little more difficult until you understand the demands, etc.

as someone said earlier, comm 1800 is pretty straightforward. I had Professor Kemp, he at least tried to make lecture interesting with personal stories. He’s really likable. I don’t know about the other teacher that teaches it though…Atchinson I think is his name?

comm201 is one of those classes you can either really understand or just not understand at all. So some people have to work at it harder than others. I had Erickson for this class… she’s really fair. The material can be dry but she’s the best teacher for it, and just make a serious effort to do well. Definitely study for exams

Haven’t taken spanish or PLAP101 (I almost did) so can’t help you there.
