I got accept into umich and I submitted my CSS profile to them. I made a mistake on the CSS. I put that my parents file 1040 form. They do not. They did not file any tax form because since we came to the USA they did not work. I started my FAFSA. There will some contradictions between the FAFSA and the CSS. I am afraid that the fin aid would think that I trying to falsify information. What can I do to correct my mistake?

You need to update the Profile. Call them and tell them what happened. Also, if I were you, I would get help filling out both forms. If you made that kind of mistake, you may also have made others that you are just not yet aware of. Neither form is easy to fill out if you are unfamiliar with the US tax system.

What sort of income do they have (and what is your family living on) if they did not work?
The school’s financial aid office will want to know about ALL income.

Just remember, if your parents earned any income in ANY country, they are required to put that on the Profile converted into U.S. dollars. It’s not just income earned IN the U.S…it’s ANY income they earned in 2010 that must be listed.

my family’s income is <20k most of it aid from the federal gov’t ( food stamps, etc )
