A Different Kind of Honor For Penn

<p>Ranked first (tied with USC) in an annual ranking of university efforts to improve their surrounding communities. Neighboring Drexel came in 10th, too. No other Ivy League university -- and none of the other urban universities that arguably compete with Penn -- made it into the top 25.</p>

<p>Apart from the artificiality of any ranking, this is a good reminder of the extraordinary turnaround that has happened in West Philadelphia over the past 15 years or so in terms of Penn's relationship with the surrounding community.</p>

<p>I saw this is well and was very pleased. I’m hoping we continue to buy up local real estate in UC and keep cleaning things up.</p>

<p>Penn’s national leadership in improving urban surroundings was acknowledged almost 4 years ago by the Washington Post:</p>
