Hey guys,

I have a little problem choosing, or maybe I'm just not well informed from the start. I've taken the SAT twice, and the first time I got a 720/750/680 and the second time a 720/700/780. Comparing these two scores (2150 and 2200) which one should I choose to send to a college? I'm probably going to apply for a science major, or would I have better chances if I put down undecided? I'm not sure if this is right, but don't science programs focus more on CR and Math scores? I've also heard that Writing scores aren't important for some colleges, but in my case the second writing score is wayy better than the first one, so which score should I choose? I feel like a 700 math would ding me too much because of its commonness. How many of the Ivy leagues superscore the SAT so that I won't have to worry ?

Also, is the scale for the June 2014 Math portion harsh? I missed 3 questions (which comes down to roughly -4 raw score) but I only got a 700 :(

I don’t know why this is in the Chances section instead of Admissions. What are you asking Chances about?

Many colleges superscore so it will help to send both for those that superscore you to 2250. Some colleges don’t consider the W score at all so send the best M+CR to those. It doesn’t matter if you put a science or undecided if it is in the same college (Arts and Science). For engineering colleges, the accepted students usually do have higher M portions. Look up each college to see.

Simple. If they look only at CR+M send the 2150. If they look at writing as well and they superscore send both, you would have a 2250. Most schools superscore. And no, 680 is not bad, especially if you are applying for science/engineering major. I have a friend in MIT engineering who got a 2190 and the breakdown was 720/800/670. Don’t worry :)

Can you chance me back?

Thanks!

Thank you for the replies. I am a new user, so this is in Chances unfortunately. I would really appreciate new comments and help though! :D

Most colleges superscore or only look at what they deem to be the best scores. It can’t hurt to send both! You can find whether colleges superscore or not simply by googling it or checking on the college website. The college website should also say somewhere whether or not they look at writing, or you can check collegeboard and see whether the college lists the average scores for the writing section or not. As for whether or not to apply for a science major or as undecided, apply for a science major if you are passionate about science and want to pursue it and put down undecided if you really aren’t sure. Some colleges (including some Ivies) don’t make you declare your major on your application; rather, they ask you to select a few interests. Other schools (such as Cornell) make you apply for a specific college within Cornell and choose a major within that college (although you can still apply to Cornell Arts and Sciences as undecided).
