A Failing Grade

So, here's the deal.

School closes beginning Dec 16. for Winter Break.

It takes one week to recieve transcripts after ordering them.

I am taking an online PE class that I have FAILED before (actually, I was withdrawn, but for legitimate reasons).

It takes two weeks to process the final grade.

So, roughly, I have less than two weeks left to finish my online course if I want it in my transcript. There is no way I can finish the course in this amount of time.

I was wondering, should I just order my transcripts as they are and ship them out along with completely apps to the schools I want to go to, even with the gigantic F? I'm planning to submit a brief essay explaining why I was not able to finish the course.

I know, 100%, that I will get an "A" this time around. However, I will not be able to finish in time.

When I finish the class, within a month or so, should I just ship out my mid-year report as soon as possible then? How can I assure that the adcoms will see that I have replaced my grade? Will the adcoms take my higher GPA into consideration?

I'm really worried. What should I do?

wait for ed or rd? if it is ed, you can always hold back for what ever reason. you dont have to apply ed.

also if i totally didnt help you and misread what you were asking, sorry.

For what schools? For what type of application? I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish other than getting your transcripts to colleges. Why would your online course be on your regular school transcript anyway? From the initial read of your post it sounds as if you will need two transcripts. One from your HS and one from whatever institution is the online course. Your real question is when is the deadline for you application information??? Have you checked w/ your colleges about this?

No, the online course is directly linked to my school.

I'm applying ED for all schools--and the schools are mostly reaches.

Type of application--6 common, 3 independent.

The earliest deadline is 12/31. I haven't checked yet, but...

I don't know! I'm just so confused about everything.

How are you planning to appy ED to so many schools? That sounds incorrect. So the online to from your school and one transcript is what you need. How can you apply ED if your won't have your transcript before the deadline? I am confused w/ your story.....sorry. Who is helping you at your school? Someone is surely helping you follow the rules.

Sorry, I meant RD.

Okay, I'm going to rephrase my question (and I apologize to whoever is confused):
There will be an "F" on my transcript if I want to send them in on time. Since my "A" won't be achieved until after the app deadline, should I just send them in now, and have my "A" show up on my mid-year report, providing an explanation?

I don't want that terrible grade to ruin my chances. I want the adcoms to know why I have that "F," and that I retook the classes to fix my grade. How can I make sure of this?

One final question: is the A replacing the F? Is it averaged into your GPA with the F? You need to clarify that first. If the grade of F disappears that is one scenario.

I don't see how you can simply be talking transcript.......I mean the grade must be factored into your GPA correct? You are applying with a lower GPA than you might otherwise have earned. You will need to explain this. I think someone at your school is advising you.....what are they recommending?"

No one at my school is advising--and therein lies the problem. My counselor has yet to remember my name, despite seeing me at least twice a week. AND! she has about 500 other kids to worry about, literally.

And yes, the "A" will be re-factored into my GPA. But the the "F" letter won't disappear; it just won't count anymore.

Sorry to hear that you have little or no advising help. OK the F appears on the record but is not calculated into GPA.....so it is F replaced by A. How lucky for you.....some schools average the grades. I guess it is hard to advise you about the transcripts for we have no idea how much this F has dropped your GPA. I don't think the F itself is the total problem but rather the lower GPA. I am thinking that you might be better to apply once you have the course completed. However you are faced w/ deadlines and I am guessing that you must have some applications due in early Jan or at the latest mid Jan. You will need to submit your application by those dates and then supplement that application w/ your updated transcript. You need to look at the total affect on your GPA.......perhaps you are still high enough that it won't matter. I cannot answer that for you.

I'm sorrt if this isn't much of any answer..but how do you have an online gym course? Seriously though, gym is just running around and playing games with maybe one or two quizzes on sports and fitness. How is that taken online?

Submit the application complete with the "F" transcript on time. Then, once the new transcript becomes available, get that in immediately.

Even with the "F" in my GPA, I'm still ranked 16/600, which makes in the top 3%.

And it's necessary that I take a course of PE, and I chose it online, since I was not willing to forsake my academics nor my electives for it. It's easy, but EXTREMELY tedious. There are reports and essays and reports and essays and schedules that takes hours to finish... You have to work out, record what you worked how/how this muscle felt after this stretch/etc. etc.

OK now that you have answered the GPA question make sure you meet the deadlines for submission of application. Follow up with your ammended transcript and wait for your fat envelope. Too bad you had to go through the hoops for a PE class.

Fat envelope? I can only wish...

Nothing wrong with wishing now is there? I think wishing is a big part of this whole process.

Thanks, hazmat!

You've helped me more than that entire guidance team+admin at my school could have!

how do yo take P.E. online? do u like hit the spacebar to shoot a free throw?
