A fair shot at Stanford, UCB,Yale????

hi:)
here's the thing:I'm a senior at the country's best highschool and there is a number of us applying for the us in the generation.Having in mind that they probably won't admit more than 1 person from the same school from serbia..we're in a complete mess:) some of the other guys(no girls applying) have better science prizes ( intern. comp ), but lower sat1 scores and are fully science- orientated, so I'm standing better with the ECs, sports and leader. positions....

Stanford is my top choise, but I'm also thinking UPenn, Yale, Berk., JHU..so do I have a shot?????

-by far the most competitive school in the country, lots of ex students admitted to the ivies

-State physics competitions('00-'05), 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronzes
member of the school team for the general knowledge competition, silver at the state competition '03, also some medals at math nc

-french(3 years),spanish(2 years),italian(1 year).my grandparents are german, so some german as well but no certificates:(

-president of the school debate club, country's best speaker(2 years in a row), member of the nat. team for the world champ.,got some very good recom. from us debate coaches i worked with there, also some prizes at other intern. tournaments. coaching middle school debate(2 years), and started coaching highschool this year..probably will be the team leader for the world champ. this year

-one of the founders of the NGO which deals with renewable energy resources

-400+ hours of volunteer work for OEBS

-sailing(8 years) i'm ranked as one of the best in the country, but, then, it's really not popular down here, so don't know if it counts, snowboarding, and level 2 PAD scuba diving
-volleyball, captain of the school team, handball school team member

please help!!! :)

^^ you got no nobel prizes, don't bother applying!
everyone who has less than 2 nobel prizes have less than 0.5% acceptance rate, you got a crap shot!

^^No...

I think you have a great chance! Definitely apply. You seem to have pretty solid scores and wonderful activities, a very unique person indeed. You may want to get some safeties though.

Srpski(18 godina), hrvatski (18 godina), bosanski (18 godina), nisam los iz makedonskog (razumeju me kad pricam), imam rodjaka slovenca ali nemam diplomu.

I ja sam dobar u snowballing-u, pa se ne hvalim. Otkud tebi toliki volonterski sati. Mislis da je to sto ides u skolu volontiranje. E pa nije. Jos su i casovi skraceni.

guys, don't be angry, cause I told her on serbian.

siona*:

UCB: Match (out of state)

Harvard (safety)
USB (safety)
Stanford (you guess)

thanx a lot..:)

I haven't made the choise of the safeties yet..so any ideas???

flopsy:..there's been a lot of discussion here about UCLA open-not open to international stud., like officialy, the stats say there's a hole lot of them, but ppl here are saying it's difficult to get in even as a out of state us, not to mention overseas. as you're there...you must know:) ????

Can i have your autograph??

siona*:

UCLA is as equally open to international students as it is to out-of-state students within the U.S. because they're grouped together under the admissions page. I know anecdotal evidence can be weak, but all the fellow international students I've met (from Canada, Hong Kong, Japan) had worse stats than you. Heck, my stats were inferior to yours in every aspect and I still got in as an Engineering out-of-state applicant. I don't think you'll be rejected at all...

flopsy: thanx, will add it then:) i really think west coast works better for me so if i'm accepted to any of those wc univs i've stated
out..great:) just hoping to be sailing in cal next year:)

Siona is my friend and I just want to add that she was second on European Championship when she was 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in senior group, not with people of her age)

Add Caltech too!

goldfish, from what I've heard caltech is really hard on intern. students.on the other hand i really like it. you really think i should try for it?..and thanx for posting guys:)

uh yeah... you're in. do you like new haven or palo alto better? what about berkeley?

This is kinda of stupid to ask...but do you take standardized tests in serbia the same way as in the US?

thanx, "uh yeah... you're in" sounds realllllly great:)
palo alto is my favourite:) stan 1st, then ucb, then yale, actually i'm really into going to cali, so i'd like to pick up some cal univ. for safeties as well. do you have any ideas? thanx a lot:)

wow

i dont know if anyone else deserves to

also, do you guys think i could expect some fin. aid? i don't need a full ride but 30-50% would be great..thanx:)
