A few details

Fav. movie: I like Inception but, lowkey, Titanic too. Would it be weird if a guy says he likes Titanic? What is the purpose of this question?

Fav. song: I like many songs and definitely can’t say one specific one. Holst’s Jupiter, Elgar’s 5 Pomp and Circumstance No. 5, Horner’s “Becoming one of the people” (from Avatar) to name but a few… How should I decide? Do any of these songs suggest any personality traits about me? Again, what is the purpose of this question?

In general, are these questions meant to be elusive of your intellectual curiosities/ personality traits?

Thank you!

I would say that it is intended to show your personality and also can reveal intellectual curiosities. My D2 had a question like this at another top school. She is an intellectual at heart, so her choices after a little thought were not particularly mainstream (and she got in). I personally think that her choices and the bit of description she gave might have piqued the interest of the reader a bit, which I am sure did not hurt her chances.

Thank you @intparent - that’s good to hear. My responses are also rather quirky/ different and also largely academic/ intellectual. Well done to your D2!

By fave song you mean fave recording? I wasn’t sure how to interpret that tbh, can I just put my favourite song there even if it’s not really a “recording”?

Choosing things you THINK will appeal to admissions is a bad idea. i.e "largely academic/ intellectual. "

Consider: A Beautiful Mind & the Princeton Fight Song.

Can I put one of my fave progressive house tracks under “favourite recording”?

“Consider: A Beautiful Mind…” Nah, how about “Admission”?
