When do you find out who your summer roommate is?

(I've asked this b4 but I lost the thread)..What website can you change your summer schedule on?

What are some good community service clubs/sororities?

you are certainly an eager beaver aren’t you?

Isn’t it a bit late to register for summer courses? I know some start pretty soon (i.e. next week).

telebears (google it)

hahaha you REALLY want to come to cal don’t you? I’m feeling nice, soooo I’ll answer what I can:

(I’ve asked this b4 but I lost the thread)…What website can you change your summer schedule on?
telebears.berkeley.edu if I’m not mistaken

What do you do on the Welcome Activities week? How early can you arrive to your dorm to move in? I can’t wait to leave home!
Welcome Week is pretty lame I have to admit. Ours last year was quite uneventful and painfully dry (I mean, I’m not an alcoholic, but still). I think early August is move in time? Google is your friend for this one.

What are some good courses to start my summer session off with that are light and easy? I want to avoid chemistry and I’ve fulfilled math requirements (I’m pretty sure. Since i’ve gone up to Calc 2)
Try to get rid of an AC requirement or an easy breadth in the beginning. Google the L&S Site and browse for some courses that seem interesting to you.

Can freshman start a club?
Yes, but I can basically guarantee you that whatever you were going to start is already in existence in some form.

What are some good community service clubs/sororities?
For general EC’s, people tend to join Rally Comm their first year and then drop out (I’ve heard the group is annoying/cliquey overall). For comm service groups, check out [Student Organization Main Page](http://students.berkeley.edu/osl/studentorganizations.asp) and browse around.

Again, for most questions, Google will answer them faster than we will. :)

You have a great attitude – I’m glad those on here are feeling good and ready to welcome the Freshman in the same spirit we were welcomed. Yeah, finals are over and time to BREATHE!

Dunno, never been.

See jojomonkey response

It seems like every year I’ve been here Welcome Week gets shorter and shorter. Suspect with budget cuts that will remain so for a while. When I moved in I loved welcome week b/c it gave me a chance to meet my roomies, my floor mates, get situated, buy books, see how long it takes to get to class. But also it’s a great time to also check out all the clubs and get a bunch of free stuff.

Agree with Jojo 4 & 5

Totally disagree with Rally Comm being annoying or cliquey – it’s a really welcoming bunch of students who don’t mind if you’re weird or shy or w/e and it’s a good way to make friends and have some Cal spirit. Yeah, you do have to say “Go Bears!” a lot, but it’s silly fun and great escape. I wasn’t into sports AT ALL when I came here (huge understatement), but really learned to appreciate the athletics and the spirit.

If you’re a bio major than maybe try Bio 1B. It has no pre-req and seems like a good transition for freshman into a lab class since the labs are less intense (you look at plants, go to botanical garden). Also I heard the class is easier in the summer and that you have no final but just 3 equal midterms.

1.) As usual, you find out the day you move in.

2.) TeleBears – [Tele-BEARS Referral Page](http://telebears.berkeley.edu)

3.) It’s just a week to accodomate yourself to the new environment before courses begin. For me, it was experiencing freedom for the first time ever and not knowing what to do with it (my parents restricted me like I was 8yo until I went to college, and then went completely hands-off all the sudden the day I moved in). It was a time to explore, meet new people, and make your first friends (outside CalSO).

4.) Satisfy your American Cultures requirement. Take it P/NP if you aren’t sure. Also, look to see if any of the classes you need have a long prerequisite chain.

5.) Yes. Anyone can start a club. However, there is probably already a well-established club for whatever you’re interested in.

6.) For clubs, go to Sproul plaza during welcome week and take a look at all the people who are tabling. Sororities are quite different – they can be thought of as structured support groups which will become a permanent part of your identity. If you’re thinking about joining one, do some research at [url=http://www.calgreeks.com]CalGreeks - Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of California, Berkeley/url. Get to know some of the girls over the summer, and attend formal rush at the beginning of the semester.

Yes! I live in a small town around 40,000 people (compared to San Francisco! and Berkeley) but I want to get outta here asap, which is why I registered for the summer! I was going to do it for the day after I get out of high school, but it seemed a LITTLE to soon! : ] and it was good that I didn’t because I’m going to Germany and other parts of Europe.

And thanks guys for answering all of my questions! They were all very helpful and welcoming! : ]

Oh yeah, also I meant when do you get your roommates information so that you can stalk them on facebook or whatever and chat with them?

if they checked the box to allow their name to be shared, you should get it very soon, with your housing assignment for fall. If they didn’t allow it, you won’t find out until move-in day.

that’s weird. I didn’t get one for the summer : /

summer not the same as the full bore housing process. doubt you find out the summer roommate before you arrive.

man! I was looking forward to that. Oh well, I guess I’ll be in Europe anyways.
