A freinds admission

I have a freind who is applying to Andover in his freshman year here are his
stats

AP Physics A-
AP English Literature A
AP Calculus B
AP US History A+
AP Statistics B+

Ec's Student Council President,School Newspaper,Treasurer of young republics club, leader of Marching Band,Captin of Debate Team

Last year his Highest grade was a 85 do you think he has a shot at Andover he had a learning disorder last too

So he's a freshman now and he's taking five AP's??

He's on a high based curriculumn

^ No kidding....AP Statistics in Freshmen? Jeez!

Wow...

I think he has a really good chance. He should probably apply to Exeter, too. They have a really strong math and science program.

Lots of kids at Andover are WAY advanced in math, especially those coming directly from Asia. It's good, but not a clear hook as there are so many top math kids.

The leadership positions are probably his strongest attribute. With a good SSAT he has a good shot.

Does this person go to Junior High where the freshman class is the oldest class at the school? How can a freshman be student council president, etc., etc., at a four year traditional high school?

Maybe she meant that he was president of his class?

Even so...Captain of the Debate team and head of the marching band as a freshman? And last year he had a learning disorder but now it's gone?

Is this a joke?

I'm thinking it's a joke.. 5 AP classes freshman year? Come on.

I don't find the 5 APs freshman year unusual. Lots of kids do this at competitive high schools. I assume the ECs are from middle school.

Yes, 5 APs freshman year is completely believable. Problem is, most schools don't allow that, and thus it seems odd. However, take into consideration his highest grade last year was an 85, and also this 'learning disorder' he speaks of.

I'm with Loophole. I think this is a "joke."

He goes to Princeton Day School and yes I meant president of his class
and by learning disorder I meant it was mild like concentration problems
Loophole

Perhaps he should have some fun being a 13 year old. Or is he 9?

How did he do on the exams? That "B" in calc will be negligible if he 5'ed the exam.

When you get to a school like Andover, you realize kids who read like this one are common.

I f you ask me I think a B in Calculus in your freshman year is pretty impressive

^^of course it is!!

Of course, but there is such variance from school-to-school in grading scales. The AP score would be a more accurate reflection of the student's grasp of calculus, as it is universal throughout. Of course, taking calc as a freshman is quite nice, but if he got a 3 or a low 4 on the AP and stumbles his way through Linear Algebra, is Andover going to like that?
