In the application, I do not have 1 year of Visual Art that I have done in 9th to 12th grade and it seems like a pre requisite.

I'm an international.

Does this disqualify me from applying?! I'm applying as an engg major.

Yes, the A-G requirements are “requirements.” The one-year Visual and Performing Arts class is the one most missed by OOS and International students. There are a couple of options for you:

Best option: You can sign up for a one-semester community college VPA course NOW that starts next semester. (A one-semester college course can usually replace a year-long high school course.) I am vaguely remembering that you are on a gap year, so hopefully you could find time. Enter that on your application as a planned course. (Note - you would actually have to take the course, Berkeley will require a transcript before they allow you to matriculate.) VPA can be things like drawing, ceramics, piano, guitar, etc. Just make sure wherever you take the course has a CEEB code so you can enter it on your application.

The other option is if you have some background in visual and performing arts - lessons or awards or something of that sort. You could apply for “Admission by Exception” University of California - Admissions and discuss your reasons and VPA qualifications in your personal statement. You would also have to contact Berkeley directly before the deadline to apply for admission by exception. NOTE: Admission by Exception is very rare and most often is used for recruited athletes who do not meet the eligibility rules, so it is only a tiny hope.

Good luck GregoryHouse! (I tried not to be confusing today. How'd I do???)

You did extremely wonderful :) Thank you so much... though I am a tad bit worried about how I'm going to go about doing this thing.

I don't think I have any place here in India with a CEEB code that I can enter for VPA... yikes. But thank you. xD

Found this lovely thread!

Read JHS's post on page 2... life saver!!!!! :D

Yeah! Despite your complaining about them, your scores easily make you eligible by examination. If possible it would still be a good idea to try to get the VPA class on your application. While Eligibility by Examination would be very useful at several UCs, there will be around 50,000 applicants to Berkeley this year and a lot of them (if not most) will have Eligibility in the Local Context, Statewide Eligibility AND be Eligible by Examination. And yesterday, the UC announced they may cut enrollment by 10,000 students. Your best bet is to be as qualified as possible with that much competition.

No CEEB code? Does your high school have a CEEB code? If not, what info did you use to enter your high school on the UC application? Or on your SAT materials? Are there "Community Colleges" in India? I would guess you would enter the community college by whatever means you were able to get your high school on the app. Hmmm... I seem to be teetering towards confusing again...
