A-G requirements

It sounds like a good plan, but see how it goes for precalc. If he really struggles, then he may not want to take calc. A D or F wouldn’t bode well for admission to UCSD.

The admin officer actually said that most of the times, UCSD has to rescind the admission because students dropped or failed classes that they put in their UC application. He even said that in some cases a “C” grade (or most likely multiple Cs) can be a reason for them to rescind the admission as well.

It might be a fight to get the middle school math on the transcript. Our current CA district will not put it on the transcript even though another district did in the same county did. I don’t know the reasoning but since our daughter has enough math without it.

UCSB is not as competitive as some of the other UC schools but it’s still a competitive school comparatively. Plus, your son is a Sophomore. Things could change. My daughters school list changed drastically as she did more research and went to more college tours and info nights. You sort of need a transcript that is ready for anything.

A B.S. in Psych – for those colleges that offer it addition to an BA/AB – will require calc. Those desiring to go to grad school in other than clinical psych will also be advised to take Calc.

thanks everyone for the advices and links. It’s really helpful for us to have all these information. I think I will need to talk to his counselor and ask whether the middle school math will be on the transcript.
