A Georgetown diploma vs. others?

I hate that I'm asking this question because it gets at the idea of "different levels of prestige," which I didn't want to sway my decision of where to go for college at all, but I will ask anyway. For those who attend Georgetown, after they graduate, how do you think a Georgetown undergrad diploma is regarded against a Northwestern or Berkeley diploma? I know that the response will be different if you compare it to the Ivies, but for other schools that are similar to the two I listed, do you think Georgetown is regarded a little above, a little below, or a on equal footing with them?

I realize this is very subjective, and everyone has a different opinion. (And the fact that this is a Georgetown board could definitely cause the discussion to sway one way.) But, despite all of that, what do you think?

A Georgetown diploma is quite different, as it is written entirely in Latin. (Actually, this information is from my interviewer, so that might have changed recently.)

It depends on what you mean. Georgetown is generally on par with the schools you listed and their peers, better for some things, with other schools better for others. For International Relations, Political Science, and some fields of History, Georgetown is often regarded as the best in the country (even against members of the Ivy League Sports Conference).

It’s a personal choice, and will involve your desired major and potential field.

Yes, you’ll have to provide quite a bit more information. Your plans after graduation especially matter. Location also matters, I would think that Berkeley would receive more recognition in the West Coast while Georgetown would be more recognized in the East Coast. Major is also very important, an SFS degree from Georgetown would probably beat the equivalent from the other two schools, but Berkeley’s hard sciences are probably stronger than either of the two other schools.

As for the “Ivies,” which as Billy has eloquently pointed out, is really just a sports conference, though it does seem they also have a reputation for being prestigious, don’t outshine Georgetown by too much. If you’re going to look at HYP, then yeah, they’re miles ahead, but I would be inclined to believe that Cornell and Brown are about the same prestige as Georgetown.

Historically, on average, I’d feel those 3 colleges were about equal in reputation. However, wih the current and future cutbacks at Berkeley, I go to Northwestern or Georgetown if the cost differential is not too great for you.

Yes, it is advisable to go to college in the region of the country where you will want to start your professional career. That will take maximum advantage of the alumni networks.
